Lynch Directed NIN Video Today, and Downward Spiral

Lynch directed NIN video today

The public is set to embrace the latest David Lynch film … well, it’s not going to be a three-hour mind eff, it’s gonna be a short film for Nine Inch Nails’ recently released “Came Back Haunted.” Last week, Nails front man Trent Reznor posted a self portrait picture on Twitter. Lynch is seen in the background looking all Lynchy. You can check Vevo.com to get the video. Reznor has worked with Lynch in the past when he produced the motion picture soundtrack for the bizarre, yet masterfully well done Lost Highway movie staring Bill Pullman and a ton of others. The new album, Hesitation Marks comes out September 3rd. Nails will be up at Lollapalooza in Chicago this August and in St. Louis October 1st.

Downward spiral

Former Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri was recently in a sever car accident. He hasn’t been in the band for a few years and it’s been rumored he was on the new album but not prominently … but regardless, the accident is being felt by the band and by fans. Currently Oliveri is with the band Mondo Generator. They released a statement about the accident on their Facebook page. It’s been a bit of a rough patch for Oliveri, who a few months ago got into a standoff with police. The story goes that he was in an altercation with his girlfriend and everything ended peacefully, but police ended up finding cocaine, meth and a loaded rifle in his duplex. He pleaded not guilty to those charges. Back in August he took a plea deal for cocaine possession charges.

Network Screams, Back in Court, Going Solo, and You Direct

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Network screams

It's not everyday that you get to see a six year old screaming about zombies with a hardcore metal voice, but that's what you go when Aaralyn and her 9-year-old brother Isaiah took to America's Got Talent the other day. The four judge panel including Howard Stern and Howie Mandel were a bit shocked when the duo started rocking out. They eventually got booted from the competition, but not without a standing ovation from the crowd.

Back in court

Speaking of screamers ... Tim Lambesis appeared in court yesterday. He could have changed his not guilty plea for a guilty one, but that didn't happen. Now he's gonna head back into court September 16th. Lambesis remains free on bail. The As I Lay Dying singer was arrested in early May for giving an undercover cop $1,000, and instructions to kill his estranged wife.

Going solo

Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd plans a solo album. Originally the project "In Deep Owl" was supposed to just be Ben on accoustic, but that quickly changed to something bigger when Soundgarden/Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron and former Pearl Jam drummer Matt Chamberlain signed up. The album In Deep Owl is due out in late August. You can hear a sample at the same place you can pre-order the album.

You direct

Rob Zombie is planning to release another music video for the cover of Grand Funk Railroad's "All American Band" that appears on his latest disc Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor ... but the video won't be directed by him. He's calling on fans to produce a video for the tune. And, if he likes it, he'll give it an official releasing. To get rules and submit, check out ShareTheVenom.com.

Album Streams, Posing Question About Posers, New Album Will be Cool and Love 4 of 12

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Album streams

Skillet’s new album is streaming online, even though it’s already out in stores. Lead singer John Cooper says the album Rise is about the typical American teenager and the struggles of finding their place in the big, bad world. What kind of struggles? Cooper says that modern times means bombings, school shootings, floods, and other maddening things people are forced to deal with. That doesn’t include the struggles one finds at home. The album is out now, but you can stream it online at Billboard.com. Skillet is out on the Carnival of Madness Tour beginning in August.

Black Veil Brides empty amps ...

Posing question about posers

There’s an interesting question being posed by a backstage pic posted online of the Black Veil Brides. The pic shows the backside of a guitar amp rig. What looks like it could be a quite daunting rig of four speakers, on the reverse side is just an empty prop. The pic was taken by The Bronx drummer Jorma Vik who thought the practice was a bit strange. Black Veil Brides responded that it’s a typical thing that a bunch of bands do. And we call those bands posers.

New album will be cool

Dave Grohl and the guys from Foo Fighters are planning a new album and they’re saying it’s gonna be “cool.” Drummer Taylor Hawkins says they’re starting to plot out some ideas but there’s nothing specific quite yet. Grohl recently reveled that the band is going to record the album in an unconventional way. This is just after their 2011 alubm Wasting Light was recorded all on analog tape and they even put pieces of the original tape inside the album sleeve. There’s no timeline on when the album would be available.

Love 4 of 12

Courtney Love plans a new release sometime in December. There’ll be several songs released including “Wedding Day” and a b-side called “California.” Love tells Rolling Stone magazine that the tunes are effing great. But, not all the new tunes she’s recorded are great, Love says. She says of 12 songs recorded so far, four are great. Thanks for that update, Ms. Love.

Red Hot Fight, September Release Date, and Double Platinum Auction

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Red Hot fight

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ front man Anthony Kiedis got into a squabble with security for the Rolling Stones over the weekend … and it was caught on tape. The bizarre incident quickly gets out of control but is extinguished as fast as it flared up. What happens is Kiedis and a female companion approach the front of the Four Seasons in Philly where apparently The Stones security is hanging out. With tabloid cameras running across the street, Kiedis tries walking through security and they physically stop him. He gestures. Security pushes back, then at one point it looks like Kiedis is put in a headlock. Someone yells out “That’s the lead singer of the Chili Peppers. He has slippers from the Four Seasons on” After the no-more-than-ten-second-fight, Kiedis shakes the guard’s hand. Meanwhile, the camera guy for TMZ is heard saying “Harvey, I got something for you!” It should have been the paparazzi that got roughed up by security.

September release date

Get ready for a September 24th release date for Korn’s latest album. The band’s 11th studio album, and the first in ten years with original guitarist Brian “Head” Welch, has been dubbed by members of the band as the best album to date. Korn drummer Ray Luzier posted to Instagram the album date saying they just did a press conference in France where they played the press a few samples of the new album. There’s still no detail about the title of the album or a possible track-listing.

Double platinum auction

An animal shelter that was severely damaged by the recent Oklahoma tornadoes is getting a little bit of a boost from Tool and A Perfect Circle front man Maynard James Keenan. The website Beleaver.com says that Maynard, through his trainer, is auctioning the platinum records for Tool’s Undertow album and APC’s Mer De Noms with all the proceeds to go to the Animal Resource Center.

Deer be Damned, Tied the Knot, Track Listing Released, Multi-Instrumental

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Deer be damned

It seems that Bret Michaels just can’t get a break … He’s had parts of stages about knock him out after coming down on his forehead. He’s even had a brush with death with a blood clot or something in his brain a few years back. Now he’s been in a tour bus accident. Now, this tour bus accident ended up much worse for the deer than anyone on board. Over the weekend as the bus was traveling between shows from Texas to Mississippi, several deer committed highway suicide and jumped in front of the bus. Michaels was still able to make the show in Mississippi … deer be damned.

Some chick, Jamie Wachtel and Scott ...
Some chick, Jamie Wachtel and Scott ...

Tied the knot

Scot Weiland can add a third notch on his belt. No, that’s not how many different bands he says he’s still part of when he’s not … that’ how many times he’s been married. The eccentric singer tied the not with photographer Jamie Wachtel Saturday. They met during a photo shoot for Weiland’s Christmas album a few years ago.

Track listing released

Nine Inch Nails have released the track listing of their new album Hesitation Marks which comes out in September. The first album since the 2008 freebie The Slip, comes in at 14 tracks. News of the track listing also comes with updates on some special guests including Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac and Pino Pallindino who is touring with The Who. King Crimson’s Adrien Belew is also a guest on the album. NIN will be in St. Louis October 1st. Hesitation Marks hits stores September 3rd.

It’s gonna be a bit before a new Slipknot album. In the meantime Slipknot band mates are working on some side and solo projects, including drummer Joey Jordison. He’s got Scar The Martyr set for a fall release. Jordison plays drums and bass on all the tunes and even gets on the guitar for a couple.

All-day drumming, All aboard, Wayward Ward, and New video out

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

All-day drumming

Well, he did it. Andrew W.K. drummed for 24 hours yesterday and he says his heart rings as much as his ears do. The day-long drumming stunt was done in conjunction with MTV’s O Music Awards. Some of the guests he had pop in and drum with him include Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers fame, Marky Ramone from The Ramones, and even actor Cuba Gooding Junior showed up to provide some cowbell action. As for some of the winners of the awards, Jack White got the Analog Genius award because he loves vinyl, Linkin Park got Best Interactive and Andrew W.K. won for Must-Follow Artist on Twitter.

All aboard

ShipRocked 2014 keeps getting better and better! Some of the names thrown on the manifest include Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, Sevendust, Three Days Grace and others. Also on the cruise will be Device, In This Moment and Nonpoint. The cruise leaving from Miami’s port will be January 26-30.

Wayward Ward

Ozzy says he wants Bill Ward to be part of the next album … if there is another album. Black Sabbath is coming off the very successful launch of their most recent album … the first featuring Ozzy in decades. Original Drummer Bill Ward was supposed to be with the reunited band but there were some contract issues. Ozzy NME that it’s possible a new album could be in the band’s future and he’d love to have Ward back on. Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk recorded with Sabbath and is also out on tour with the band.

New video out

It’s an infectious song and also the title track for their most recent album … now it has a video. The Dillinger Escape Plan has released the video for the song “One Of Us Is The Killer.” The chaos-core band went a bit mellower for the title track, and it’s definitely worth a bunch of listens.

Topping the Charts, Is he Directing, Listen to Your Wife, and Remembering Gandolfini

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Topping the charts

Not a shocker—Black Sabbath’s album 13 sold over 155,000 copies in it’s debut week smacking all other albums down like the bitches they are. That secured the band’s first album with Ozzy in decades a No. 1 spot on the billboard charts. What is a shocker, though, is 13 is Black Sabbath’s first No. 1 ever. It’s only the second top-10 album that Sabbath has ever had. The last chart topper was Master of Reality which peaked at No. 8 way back in 1971. Band members say it’s amazing and they never imagined it would happen. It goes to show that goals can be met, even after working over 40 years to reach them. Congrats, guys, you’ve earned it.

Is he directing?

That’s why Trent Reznor posted a picture of himself with famed weirdo-director David Lynch … Because Lynch is apparently directing the video for Nine Inch Nails’ new tune “Came Back Haunted.” The pic of Reznor and Lynch was posted on Reznor’s twitter yesterday. The album Hesitation Marks is out in September. NIN will be in St. Louis October 1st.

Listen to your wife

If you ever get bit by a spider, you may want to get to the emergency room … STAT! The wife of late Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman says she would have taken Hanneman to the ER immediately after he was bit by a spider, but he didn’t want to get out of bed. Kathryn tells Guitar World that the guitarist’s arm was bright red and three-times the normal size. Apparently, she tried to get him to the hospital, but he was drunk and just wanted to sleep. The next morning is when they finally made it, but doctors said it may have been too late … and it was. Note to self … if you get bit by a spider … don’t be drunk. And if you are … listen to your wife and get out of bed and to the hospital.

Remembering Gandolfini

A bunch of rock stars, from Sebastian Bach, Slash, Disturbed’s David Draiman, Anthrax’s Scott Ian, Nonpoint, Gavin Rossdale, Godsmack, Guns ‘N Roses and more are sending their condolences on the passage of famed actor James Gandolfini. Gandolfini died in Italy while on vacation at the age of 51. He was best known for his portrayal of Tony Soprano on HBO’s Soprano.

They Will Play, Metal Lullabies, Track-By-Track Preview, and Secured Investment

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

They will play

It’s more than just fans wishing for the two former Metallica members to play some classic Metallica songs … now it seems almost certain it’s gonna happen. When Gigantour takes to the road, fans will most likely hear Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine and Newsted front man Jason Newsted perform some throw-back Metallica tunes. The possibility was first hinted at by Newsted in an interview. Now Mustaine has taken to Twitter asking fans what Mustaine written Metallica songs they’d like to hear performed with Newsted.

Gigantour will be in Bloomington August 11th.

Metal lullabies

Consider it a way to initiate your youngin into the world of metal. Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star has produced an entire album of simplified lullabies based on Slipknot songs. Some of the songs include “Psychosocial,” “Dead Memories,” “Duality,” “Wait and Bleed,” “Pulse of the Maggots” and others. Expect that out July 2nd. Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star also has lullabies inspired by Slayer, Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Bullet For My Valentine plus others.

Track-by-track preview

Can’t wait for the new Five Finger Death Punch album due out later next month? Well, the band has made a track-by-track preview of The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 1 where members of the band talk about how the album came together. Ian Moody says that the band quickly found themselves with 24 plus songs after getting together in the studio. Instead of shelving the songs for a future album much later down the road, they decided to put together a double album. Part one is out July 30. Vol. 2 is expected out later this year.

Secured investment

Call it a retirement plan of sorts. Iron Maiden front man Bruce Dickinson has secured an $8 million investment for his aircraft maintenance company. Next to performing heavy metal, Dickinson is a huge aviator with tons of flying experience. His company Cardiff Aviation, which specializes in maintaining commercial airliners, now has enough capital to operate after Dickinson, alongside other investors, coughed up money to get the company in the air, so to speak.

Behind the Set, Bad Ass Haunted House, and Haunted Book

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Behind the set

We all know he like to party hard, but when it comes to drumming, he wants to set a record. We think it’s just a way to stay relevant. Andrew W.K. says he’s going to start a full day of drumming tomorrow. He’s attempting to set a world record for the longest drum session in a retail store as part of MTV’s O Music Awards. He’ll have some special guests pop in from time to time but it’ll be Mr. W.K. that is behind the drum set for the duration. Now anyone who has gotten behind a drum set knows it can be exhausting, so we encourage Andrew to play some slow beats for hours on end … don’t start that double kick, or it’ll all be over real quick. MTV’s O Music Awards is tomorrow and honors music, culture and technology.

Bad ass haunted house

Put this in the “Hell Yeah, That’d Be Bad Ass” to-do list: Rob Zombie is planning the “Great American Nightmare”—it’s a haunted experience based on three of his horror films. There’ll be a traditional haunted house based on House of 1,000 Corpses. Then there’ll be unique 3-D effects in the section dedicated to El Superbeasto. For the clausterphobic, there’ll be a super eerie and at times super tight maze based on The Lords of Salem. There will also be some bands performing including Andrew W.K., The Used and others. The experience is planned to run in Ponoma, California from October 10th, through November 2nd … just in time for Halloween.

Haunted book

Corey Taylor’s new book is indeed a book about ghosts. Titled Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Heaven (Or How I Made Peace with the Paranormal and Stigmatized Zealots and Cynics in the Process), it’ll be a series of accounts where Taylor hung out with various ghost hunting groups working to find evidence of ghosts. He also shares stories about his own experiences with paranormal activity. You can pick up the book July 16th.

New Video Out, Working Well With Others, Expected To Top Charts, and Blame It On The Pirates

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

New video out

You’ve been hearing the power ballad “I Will Follow You” from Shinedown and now you can watch the video! After airing on VH1’s Top 20 Countdown, the video was posted online. It’s as over-the-top lovey-dovey as the song is featuring Brent and the band performing while a couple frolic in a dreamy field of flowers. Shinedown is out on The Carnival of Madness this summer with stops in Bloomington August 18th and in Tinley Park August 23rd.

Working well with others

There are some big things going on with the new Five Finger Death Punch album. Not only did the band work with Rob Halford for the new album that’s out at the end of July, they also worked with Soulfly’s Max Calavera, Jamey Jasta from Hatebreed and also Maria Brink from In This Moment. The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Rigtous Side of Hell comes out July 30th with part 2 expected out later this year.

Expected to top charts

Black Sabbath’s new album 13 has already cracked the top of the charts overseas … a sign of things to come here in the US. The album sold 13,000 copies landing at No. 1. That number may seem a bit small, but that’s just in the UK. It landed at No. 4 in Australia. Numbers of overall sales from Soundscan and Billboard are expected to be well over 100,000 copies sold in the US. Those numbers are expected later this week which will surely show that Ozzy and the boys are still able to generate buzz for new music … even if Ozzy can’t remember any of the 1990’s. The singer recently told Reuters that he doesn’t really remember much of the decade because of his spate with drugs and alcohol.

Blame it on the pirates

If your album sales aren’t as hot as you’d like them to be, one thing you can do is blame internet piracy. That’s what Megadeth’s drummer says is the problem. Even though the album landed in the top ten in various countries, drummer Shawn Drover says he attributes the low sales numbers to pirated, illegally downloaded music.

The Spin Interview, New Tune Teased, His Beacon Moment, and Keeping the slogan

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

The Spin interview

He talks about how he almost died, the reasons he writes music, how he writes music, how he deals with the big record labels and what it’s like being held back by health problems—that’s all discussed in a Spin article featuring Queens of the Stone Age front man Josh Homme. In the interview, Homme talks about where the now No. 1 album came from—his desperation following medical problems, though he really wouldn’t go into much detail. He also says he wants to make music for people who want to listen to a song 50 times, and doesn’t care about being popular. Oh, and the trashy ginger says he’s quit smoking. Read the article today, and pick up Queens of the Stone Age’s … Like Clockwork.

New Tune Teased

Five Finger Death Punch have released a clip of their new tune “Burn MF.” The new album The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell will be released in two phases. The first of which comes out July 30th.

His Beacon Moment

A video featuring Corey Taylor has the Slipknot/Stone Sour front man talking pretty intimately about what his Beacon Moment was. The video shows Taylor talking about how when he was younger, and after an attempted suicide by pills he was taken home and laid on the couch where MTV was airing a Faith No More performance. He knew then that he would be an over-the-top performer. The video is a promotional video for Beacon Audio.

Keeping the slogan

A popular lyric from a Nirvana song will stay on the welcome sign for the hometown of front man Kurt Cobain. Aberdeen, Washington, city officials were thinking about removing the words “Come as you are” from it’s welcome sign, but area Nirvana fans said “nuh, uh!” After being contacted by a ton of fans, including over 300 emails to the Aberdeen mayor, the city caved and kept the slogan on there. City officials still plan on replacing the sign with a new one, but they will keep the slogan the same. Cobain grew up in Aberdeen.

... Like No. 1, New Album Talk, and Unlikely Protest Song

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

... Like No. 1

Anyone who’s been listening to the new album for the past two weeks won’t be surprised that Queens of the Stone Age’s … Like Clockwork landed at the top of the charts selling 91,000 copies. The album truly is remarkable. I’ve listened to it like at least 50 times already. Queens did a great job teasing the album with a series of animated videos, played the hell out of international festivals, streamed the album on iTunes a full week before its release and even did an hour long live streaming concert and a two night appearance on David Letterman’s show. An interesting factoid about Queens’ prominent showing on the charts this week is 13 percent of the 91,000 albums sold were vinyl LPs … that’s about 12,000. Congrats, guys. The album truly is a masterpiece!

New album talk

Lamb of God are in talks for a new album. Bassist John Campbell told Full Metal Jackie the band will tour the rest of the year and get in to the studio either late this year or early next year. The band is just coming off from their lead singer Randy Blythe being acquitted of manslaughter charges in Prague.  Catch Full Metal Jackie Sunday nights on QLZ!

Unlikely protest song

I don’t think they really considered the song to be a protest song, but now it is. AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell” has been used in the past to point out how rock and roll turns kids into hellions, but now the tune is being used to make a political point. In Utah, protestors blasted the song through loud speakers in opposition to a planned freeway. The 1979-era song was prominent just outside of a meeting on the proposed West David Corridor in Farmington, Utah. Environmental groups say the highway will ruin wetlands and destroy wildlife. But how else will America get to all the great outlet malls Utah has to offer?

Teaser Video Posted, CSI Performance Posted, and Broken Bones

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Teaser video posted

New Avenged Sevenfold is coming soon. The band tried to do some sneaky promotion online by releasing some artsy in-studio videos through different names but what's getting the most attention is when they just come out and promote the album with an official video. With that official video, fans will still have to wait for more album info. The teaser does feature a snippet of a new song, which is nice, but nothing about the title of the album or the release date.

CSI performance posted

Remember when Black Sabbath was on CSI? Well that performance has now been posted online. The band appeared in the crime drama TV show at the very beginning where they were performing in a night club. Ozzy is featured in the show talking with a rock journalist who says the prince of darkness was his first interview back in the 80s. Ozzy jokingly says he doesn’t remember much from back then. Watch the band’s entire performance of “End of the Beginning” online today. Sabbath’s latest album 13 is in stores now.

Broken bones

It's damn near impossible to play the guitar with a broken hand and wrist. It's definitely impossible to play chaos chore with a broken hand and wrist. That's what happened to one of the Dillinger Escape Plan guitarists. Ben Weinman will take most of this month to recover and the band has canceled their European tour because of it. In a message posted online, Weinman says he regrets not making a string of overseas shows but the band will still be on the Summer Slaughter tour and will be back in Europe this summer for a headlining tour. Weinman was on stage during the band’s performance at Orion Music + More in Detroit, but he was lounging in a chair showing off his cast. It’s unclear how Weinman busted his hand, but given the band’s intense onstage performance, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the injury occurred while rockin’ out.

New Album and Video Out, Won't Let Cancer Slow Him Down and More Dates Added

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The

Rock Station

New album and video out

Today’s the day the new album hit store shelves and to celebrate Black Sabbath have released a video for the song “God Is Dead?”. The video shows what looks like a vacant and desolate Times Square where the large TV screens are just static. Then an eye shows off some vintage Sabbath performance videos transforming into some more modern Sabbath performance videos. Eventually the video gets into some wild psychological landscapes that can’t be explained in a few sentences. You’ve gotta watch the whole thing. The video is the entire 9 minute song, not the radio edit. The album, 13, is out today and is expected to be the best hard rock album of 2013. It’s the bands first full length album with front man Ozzy in 35 years.

Won't let cancer slow him down

Def Leppard and Dio guitarist Vivian Campbell has cancer. The longtime rocker is sharing with the world that he has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and is already well into his treatment which includes months of chemotherapy. But that is not keeping him from hitting the tour circuit. Campbell posted online about his diagnosis and his treatment and that fans will see his new “aerodynamic” hairstyle—something that is

from the cancer treatment. Def Leppard will be out overseas later this year.

More dates added

New dates have been revealed for a Queens of the Stone Age tour … but the closest they’re coming to central Illinois is during Lollapalooza un in Chicago this August. The band is out on the road touring in support of their most recent and infectious album … Like Clockwork.

Another Lineup Shakeup, Manson Dedicates Song, and Out Tomorrow

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Another lineup shakeup

Nine Inch Nails News has been pouring out lately and most of it has been good. But, there are some shakeups with the band that can’t go unnoticed. Last week heard the news that NIN had a new tune “Came Back Haunted” which was released and aired Thursday. That also came with news that the band would do an extensive tour this fall with a stop up Chicago for Lollapallooza in August and a stop in St. Louis October 1st. There would also be a new album dropped in September. But the band is loosing another member. Guitarist Adrian Belew is said to be departing from the live band. In a statement posted online he says that he’s departing from the band, but it’s not on bad terms. Jane’s Addiction’s Eric Avery stepped down from the band last month to focus on other projects. Long-time Nails contributor Robin Fink has stepped up to fill Avery’s exit, but it’s unclear who Trent will bring on for Belew.

Manson dedicates song

More on the relationship between Marilyn Manson and Paris Jackson: it’s now being reported that during a concert Manson dedicated a song to the young heiress of Pop King Michael Jackson. The song performed last week was “Disposable Teens.” Manson took to the stage, announced the song was dedicated to Paris, and then proceeded, during the song, to simulate an act associated with suicide. When it was reported that Paris attempted to take her own life after not being able to go to a Marilyn Manson concert (among other thigns), Manson reached out and told her she was welcome to his shows anytime. A judge has now asked for a probe into the young Jackson’s well being just as a court case over Michael Jackson’s death continues.

Out tomorrow

Black Sabath’s 13 comes out tomorrow, and now the band says that will not be their last album. A recent interview revealed that the band does plan future attempts, but they’ve still gotta get this one out to the masses.

Marilyn Manson Has a Heart, and Will It Be Another Loss?

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Marilyn Manson has a heart

Rarely will the children of dead pop-star Michael Jackson make the QLZ Music Minute, unless she writes about missing a Marilyn Manson concert in a suicide note. The shock-rocker that your parents warned you about has reached out to Paris Jackson who reportedly cut her wrists, took pills and left a suicide note. Some of the reported reasons for Paris' attempt is boy trouble, school problems, her father's death, the trial about her father's death and not being allowed to go to a Marilyn Manson concert. Manson wrote Paris and told her she will be on his guest list anytime she wants.

Will it be another loss?

That's the question about this coming weekend's Orion Music + More festival in Detroit. The festival in it's second year, backed and headlined by Metallica, actually lost money last year ... according to drummer Lars Ulrich. In a businessweek.com report, Lars says that they're in it for the long haul and it may take a couple years to actually make money off the deal. The first year was in New Jersey. This year it's in Detroit. The line up includes Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Deftones and others.

Came Back Haunted Now Streaming and He's Free and Clear

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Came Back Haunted Now Streaming

It's Thursday, which means the new Nine Inch Nails song "Came Back Haunted" is streaming online. It comes with the announcement that the new album Hesitation Marks will be out September 3rd. Plus, there's another big announcement ... The band will take on a pretty expansive US tour this fall. It's being reported that Nine Inch Nails will hit up not just Lollapalooza in Chicago August 2nd, but they'll also be in St. Louis at the Chaifetz Arena October 1st. There are a ton of other dates scattered throughout the US all through October into November. It was reported earlier this year that NIN would not be putting out a new album, but would tour--Though we had an inkling the no new album stuff was BS, we didn't think the announcements would be this bad ass. Stay tuned for more updates.

He's free and clear

Oh and Randy Blythe has been cleared of all charges after a Czech appeals court upheld his acquittal. That means Blythe can now freely travel the world without being molested by Interpol. The singer was charged in the death of a fan who was thrown off a Prague stage back in 2010. The fan died nearly two weeks after the incident.

What's in a name, New NIN, and New Newsted

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

What’s in a name?

Scott Weilend thinks one lawsuit deserves another. The former Stone Temple Pilots singer still contends he’s part of the band and can't be kicked out. The band recently performed with Linkin Park front man Chester Bennington. Bennington says he and the band will be recording some new stuff. This is just months after Weilend had a solo tour where STP claims he performed STP songs unjustly and hampered 20th anniversary efforts and the potential of new music ... so the band sued. Weilend turned around and sued back. He’s seeking compensatory damages of $5 million and an additional $2 million for the band to continue to use the name! If I had Bennington's ear for a brief moment, I'd tell him to run from this drama as fast as humanly possible.

My excitement level has just been amplifed by ten ... actually, turn that up to eleven. Nine Inch Nails have announced they will be releasing a new singled called "Came Back Haunted" and there isn't a wait at all. The band will release the single Thursday. Some radio station music director in LA heard it and said the tune is in line with the first two album, which is presumably 1989's Pretty Hate Machine and 1992's Broken. Not many other details were immediately available about a new album, but it seems that with the news of the single being out Thursday, this whole deal could be hush-hush until it’s go time.

New Newsted

Newsted has a release date and title for a new album. The band formed by former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted will release their album Heavy Metal Music August 6th.

Zombie's Aspirations, Navarro's Bloody Portrait, QOTSA Out and Sabbath streaming, Another Carnival

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Zombie's aspirations

Would we see it? Yeah. Rob Zombie may be looking to make his Broadway debut by transposing his House of 1000 Corpses film to the stage. Talking with the AP, Zombie said the film "has those elements of ridiculousness that could translate to the stage of somewhere between Hairspray and Rocky Horror Picture Show on stage because it's just the characters are that ridiculous, the scenarios are that ridiculous. In other words Rob Zombie thinks Broadway is ridiculous but more importantly he thinks his film is ridiculous. We thought his Halloween reboot was ridiculous. But, We'd definitely check out the Broadway version of 1000 Corpses ... because it'd be ridiculous.

Dave and the bloody painting
Dave and the bloody painting

Navarro's portrait

Not sure how to approach this other than to say Dave Navarro had his blood used to paint a portrait of his mother. What makes this even more intense is that Navarro's mother, Constance Navarro, was murdered by her boyfriend when Navarro was 15. The murder was caught years later and prosecuted to the furthest extent of the law. A series of photos of Dave's bloodletting into a wine glass used by Samppa Von Cyborg to paint the portrait is available on Cyborg's Tumbler.

QOTSA out and Sabbath streaming

It's here! the latest Queens of the Stone Age's album ... Like Clockwork is in stores today! Be sure to head out and pick it up. Even though it's been streaming online for a week, it's still worth picking up and listen on repeat for another 15 or so spins. Speaking of new albums ... it comes out next week, and it's streaming right now. Black Sabbath's 13 is streaming right now on iTunes! Listen to it now and get pumped for the big release--something you can only say on the radio if it's in the context of a new Black Sabbath album.

Another Carnival

Danny Carey Side Project, Hidden Teaser Clip, Expected Next Month, and Future STP Plans

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Danny Carey side project

Those who can't wait for the new Tool album may get a little relief with news that drummer Danny Carey is releasing new with his side project Volto!. The group's debut album title Incitare will be out July 23rd. It's a creation of tiny jazz clubs in Los Angeles where Carey hooked up with session bassist Lance Morrison and guitarist John Volto Ziegler. After deciding to put together some original tunes, Carey called in Tool's producer to record the material and even had Tool guitarist and artist Adam Jones contribute to Volto!'s album cover art.

Hidden teaser clip

There's a new clip of a forthcoming Avenged Seven Fold album. Earlier last month the band offered a taste of some new music with an in-studio video and also had some stuff streaming on their website. That was all out in the open. Now the band is making fans work for more of a taste. Apparently the guitarist commented on an A7X fan-site with a word from the upcoming album. Searching YouTube for the unique word ("Andronikos") produced a second preview clip where it's back to the studio. There's no official release date, but surely they're close to completion.

Expected next month

A new Pearl Jam Single is expected out in July. According to an AllAccess.com post that has reportedly been removed, said that there would be a target date of July 16th for the premier of a new tune. We'll keep you posted if that happens. PJ band members have been hinting at the completion of the new album for weeks and some say it could come out by the end of this year.

Future plans

Chester Bennington is sharing more about his work and intentions with Stone Temple Pilots. At a Music Cares MAP Fund Benefit in LA last week, Bennington told Rolling Stone that STP and he are taking it song by song as they don't have a record company behind them. He also says that the band will go out and "give people music the way they want to get it." Bennington also shared that the band will be back in the studio this week to lay down more tracks. Bennington was revealed as the new singer for STP last month. The band kicked Scott Weiland out earlier this year and most recently sued the former front man. Weiland says he started the band and can't be fired.
