New Sabbath Tune, #AskJoe, No New 'tallica 'till at Least 2015 and Adding to the Lineup

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

New Sabbath tune

The boys from Black Sabbath are airing their new material while performing on stage. While playing in Australia, the band fronted by Ozzy with other original members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler with Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk performed the tune “Methademic.” And, incase you were wondering, there is fan shot footage from way back in the audience. Sabbath is touring the world in support of their forthcoming album 13. They recently just released details about their North American tour which includes a stop in Tinley Park August 16th. The new album 13 comes out June 11th.  Watch "Methademic" below or at this link.

Ask Joe

If you still cared about Def Leppard, you can take to Twitter to get front man Joe Elliot to answer some fan questions May 2nd at 4p CST. Remember to keep your Tweets short an to the point. Also, to get your Tweet read, use the #AskJoe.

No new 'tallica 'till at least 2015

We at least have a better idea of when to expect new Metallica. During a stop in South Africa at Channel24, drummer Lars says he’d be surprised if a new album came out before 2015. The band is on the verge of releasing their 3D movie Through The Never on IMAX screens for a full week beginning September 27th. Then it will make it’s way through theaters across the country.

Adding to the lineup

Gigantour, the tour that is fronted by Megadeth, keeps getting bigger. Shortly after announcing that Device will hop on board for the cross country trek, it’s now been revealed that Hellyeah has just been added to the lineup. Meanwhile, Megadeth’s new album Super Colider is expected out June 4th. David Draiman appears on the new Megadeth album for a couple of songs, so surely he’ll appear on stage to perform those songs with the headliner of Gigantour.

You can see the two tunes “This House is on Fire,” and “Loneliness is a Killer” streaming online. The songs are expected to be on the band’s forthcoming album set to come out later this year. The band recently released a concert DVD from their 2011 performance in Austin, Texas. Bush will be with Shinedown and Airbourne May 7th at the Prairie Capital Convention Center. Another book

It’s not his first time at the book writing rodeo. Corey Taylor has revealed details about his new book Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Heaven: Or, How I Made Peace With the Paranormal and Stigmatized Zealots and Cynics in the Process. The book is scheduled to be out July 16th.

Ensuring a return

With the news of Disturbed’s Dan Donegan and Mike Wengren seeming to go full time with their side project Fight or Flight Donegan took to the web to ensure fans that he’s not ditching the band that gave him the world’s stage. Donegan posted that he knows Disturbed fans are upset “but let me assure you that all of us are looking forward to the day we return as Disturbed to show you how much you mean to us.” Donegan and Wengren’s project Fight or Flight is expected to drop their album Life By Design? July 23rd. Disturbed’s Front man David Draiman recently released his side projects self titled debut Device, and John Moyer has been working with Adrenaline Mob.

More Sabbath Dates, For the Sharks, More Side Projects, and Two New Releases

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

More Sabbath dates

We knew that the 4 dates announced last week for a North American Black Sabbath tour seemed a bit sparse … Surely there would be more dates, right? Right! The band has announced their entire planned lineup which includes a stop at Tinley Park here in Illinois August 16th. Tickets for that show go on sale May 4th. Sabbath had originally wanted to do an extensive tour last year, but the cancer diagnosis of Tony Iommi kept that from happening. Things seem much better now with 20 dates announced for the North American stint. The new Ozzy fronted Sabbath album 13 is expected out June 11th.

For the sharks

Meanwhile, Slash’s humanitarian side goes to the fishes! The shredder is asking his fans to support the sharks. He says the fact that sharks are being slaughtered is quote “unsustainable and not cool” and he wants your help to give sharks a quote “rockin’ future.”

More side projects

It’s another sign that Distrubed fans will have to wait even longer for a new album as two other members jump into side projects. This time it’s Guitarist Dan Donegan and drummer Mike Wengren have joined up with Evans Blue singer Dan Chandler to form Fight or Flight. The band has posted at 30 second clip of the tune “First of the Last.” Fight or Flight will also feature some members of Ra. They expect to release their debut album Life By Design? July 23rd. Disturbed’s bassist John Moyer is currently working with Adrenealin Mob and front man David Draiman just released his side project’s debut Device.

Two new releases

Serj Tankian has announced a few new releases coming our way. The System of a Down front man’s solo work will soon include the orchestral workings in an album called Orca and a month later he’ll release Jazz-iz-Christ. Those drop June 25th and July 23rd respectively.

Theatrical release

Make plans on getting to an IMAX theatre this September if you want to see the new Metallica flick Through The Never. The band plans on premiering their 3D concert film on the high tech screen for a full week at IMAX’s around the country beginning September 27th. They’ll then have an expanded theatrical release October 4th.

He's out

They kept him behind bars for a few days but now 3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell is out on $100,000 bond … but he still faces vehicular manslaughter charges. Back on Friday in the Nashville area Harrell was driving where according to police he hit a truck that ended up going off the road and flipping. The driver died at the hospital. Harrell ended up crashed about a quarter-mile down the road. Police also say that Harrell was drinking and on prescription drugs and that he had more different types of prescription drugs on him. The band has cancelled their shows for this Spring out of respect for the deceased.

Taking your questions

Stone Sour and Slipknot front man Corey Taylor has scheduled an “Ask Me Anything” Reddit session. Fans can take to the site April 25th at 4p CST and ask questions about the new Stone Sour concept album, comic book and possible movie. You can also ask him any other question because it’s “Ask Me Anything.”

New side project

Meanwhile Slipknot drummer Joey Jordinson says he’s close to releasing some new material for a side project, though he’s a bit vague as to what’s going on. On the drummer’s Facebook page, several pictures were posted of him and other musicians in the studio. It’s unclear if this will be the Murder Dolls or if it’ll be something new entirely. We’ll keep you posted. Slipknot is still on a hiatus with a few festivals scheduled overseas. Other reports indicate that the band could reform for new music sometime later this year with a possible release early next year.

Sharon Sounds Off, and Good for the Plants

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Sharon sounds off

Sharon Osbourne is devastated by the news that her husband relapsed a few months ago. Ozzy came clean about his recent stint dabbling in drugs and alcohol a few weeks ago, saying that he is now 44 days sober. He also told the world through a social media post that he and Sharon are not breaking up. Sharon took to her daytime TV talk show The Talk and said she’s devastated by the news and that her marriage is worth fighting for. She also said that though she is not happy about the entire deal, the tabloids distort things and she will be there to help Ozzy through his addiction problems or Ozzy will have to be taken to the hospital to get her foot removed from his ass. This all comes out as Ozzy’s band reunites for a brand new album and world tour.  Watch Sharon's statement below or at this link.

Good for the plants

So you’ve heard that talking to plants helps them grow or if you were to play some classical music in your green house your plants will be happier. Not sure how you go about measuring a plant’s happiness, but one research has found that if you play Black Sabbath music for your growing plants, they will be healthier. British gardening expert Chris Beardshaw says that his research shows that plants love the sounds of Black Sabbath. Plants were subject to four different types of music but there was the most noticeable reaction when heavier music was played. Now it’s not clear if Ozzy Sabbath or Devo Sabbath or some other variation is best. But one thing is certain … the plants that had pop music pumped into their green house ended up getting overrun with disease and pests and dying. Good to know!  Read more about playing Sabbath for plants here.

Cancelling Shows, Festival Lineup Announced, and Keeping His Name

Cancelling shows

Could have seen this coming from a mile away or 3 doors down … 3 Doors Down have canceled their shows this spring because bassist Todd Harrell’s recent arrest on vehicular manslaughter charges. The story goes that Harrell is being accused of dui while on booze and pills. Police say his vehicle hit a truck which in turn went off the road and flipped. The driver of that vehicle died at shortly after arriving at the hospital. Harrell’s car ended up hitting a median about a quarter-mile down the road. Meanwhile they announced they’re not going to tour the US in April and May out of respect for the deceased and his family. They will tour over in Moscow and later this year in June they’ll be back in the states for a tour.

Festival lineup announced

The Uproar Festival has been announced. The dates were released a few weeks ago but there weren’t any bands posted. Now it’s official: Alice In Chains, Jane’s Addiction, Coheed and Cambria, and Danko Jones are just some of the offerings. Uproar will be in Tinley Park August 22nd.

Keeping his name

A recent court decision could mean the comeback of Breaking Benjamin. Front man Benjamin Burnley went to court with two former band mates over the rights to the band’s name. Trouble began in 2010 when Burnley took some time off because of an illness. Burnley claims the other members of the band unilaterally decided to sign off on a best of album without his approval. Burnely then fired the two from the band. That eventually sparked a legal battle where Burnley was victorious. There’s no official word yet if and when a new album will be out.

Vehicular homicide

3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell is having a bad day and it could hamper the band’s planned summertime tour. According to TMZ, he’s been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide. Reports indicate that Harrell was barreling down a highway in Tennessee where he clipped a truck. That truck then smashed into a guardrail, went off the road and flipped. The driver of the truck was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. It’s also reported that Harrell was drinking hard cider and taking prescription drugs. Police say he had a bag of all kinds of different prescription pain killers and psychotropic drugs. The band posted their condolences to the deceased. It’s unclear what the band will do with Harrell as they prepare to take to the road for a tour with Daughtry.

Living the dream

Dave Grohl got a chance to live a dream when he performed with and inducted Rush into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Thursday night. He and drummer Taylor Hawkins took to the stage to perform the tune “2112 Overture” with the band and also gave a speech just before they were inducted. Grohl also said that he hope Nirvana does NOT get inducted into the Rock Hall next year. Even though his original band will be eligible next year, Grohl says he hopes the survinging members will have to wait as long as Rush had to wait to get inducted!

Movie pics posted

Remember that movie starring Godsmack front man Sully Erna we told you about a few weeks ago. Well the first images of Sully in Army of the Damned have been posted to the movie’s Facebook page and on Godsmacks website. Erna plays opposite of Joey Fatone in the zombie flick. Not sure yet when it’ll be released.

Sabbath Ain't Dead, Device Joining Gigantour, Forget the Lyric Video and The Best Around

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Sabbath ain't dead

Black Sabbath have released their new single “God is Dead?” The tune comes in with a mellow beginning to then drop a dark riff just before Ozzy comes in to deliver the first Osbourne fronted Black Sabbath song in decades. Plus, the song is over 8 minutes long! Stream the tune online today. The album 13 is expected to drop June 11th. There are only a few select North American tour dates Sabbath has plotted out thus far, but we’ll keep you posted.

Device joining Gigantour

Dave Mustaine has confirmed that Device will join the band on their upcoming Gigantour tour. Mustaine made the announcement this week while talking about how Device front man David Draiman woked on a tune of Megadeth’s forthcoming album Super Colider. We’ll keep you posted on all the details.

Forget the lyric video

Just a few days ago, Alice in Chains seemed to follow suit with so many other artists who skip the music video process and posted a lyric video for the new song “Stone.” Well the band has now one-upped themselves and others by almost immediately putting out a video of the song. The video which shows the band performing mixed with some people getting some stones from strange places. Watch the video online today.

The Best Around

Halestorm are the best around at covering the Karate Kid theme song “You’re the Best Around.” Lizzy Hale and the boys covered the song while performing for a radio station out west. During the performance, Lizzy had to check her phone several times for the lyrics, and the band seemed determined to get the song’s performance on record. The original song has recently been a staple for playing when someone is seeking praise for doing everyday normal activities. Watch that performance online.

More 3D Concerts, New Video, On the Charts, and Playing for Summit

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

More 3D Concerts

Add The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction to the list of bands that will release 3D concert videos this summer. The two bands have hooked up with Rock Fuel, a production house that specializes in live concert videos. The Pumpkins 3D concert vid titled Oceania 3D features the entire album Oceania performed live with some other fan favorites. Meanwhile Jane’s Addiction’s live concert was filmed using 3D LG phones. They also had a full 360 degree stage that only adds to the experience. You can expect to pick up the live concerts June 25th. Rock Fuel is also working with Korn for a summertime theater release and earlier this week news had it that Guns ‘N Roses will take their 3D concert film to theaters this summer.

New video

Airbourne have released a video for the tune “Live It Up.” The band will be in Springfield May 7th at the Prairie Capital Convention Center with Shinedown and Bush for QLZ’s 20th B-day Bash! Tickets are on sale now.

On the charts

A look at the charts this week shows some impressive numbers for the rock world. Three big rock albums were released last week and all three landed nicely on the billboard charts. Volbeat’s Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies sold 39,000 copies to land at No. 9. House of Gold and Bones Part 2, the second part of Stone Sour’s conceptual project, came in at No. 10 selling 35,000 copies in the first week of sales. And surely David Draiman is reveling at the fact that his side project’s debuted self titled album Device landed on the charts at No. 11 selling around 35,000 copies.

Playing for summit

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to play for the Dalai Lama next month at the annual Dalai Lama Environmental Summit at a college in Portland Oregon. The Chili Pepper’s performance will wrap up the third and last day of the summit.

Deftones before 2008 car crash that left Chi (far right) in a coma

One Love For Chi

Deftones have made their first statement about the passing of original bassist Chi Cheng over the weekend. Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpetnter posted to the band’s Facebook page that there is so much he could say but none of it matters or compares to the loss everyone feels. He also says that he knows that Chi would have wanted everyone to have unrestricting love for each other and to do it for themselves. “All our healing will begin with love. I love you, Chi.” Chi died from heart failure over the weekend after being in a comatose state following a 2008 car accident. He was 42.

Tour dates announced

More tour dates have been announced for the reformed Black Sabbath fronted by Ozzy Osbourne. As of right now, there are only four dates in North America. They’ll be in New Jersey August 4th, Ontario August 14th, Seattle August 24th and Los Angeles September 3rd. The album 13 is due out June 11th. The first single “God is Dead?”

drops this Thursday.

Relapse

He was clean for a little bit, but he just couldn’t keep away. Ozzy Osbourne has apologized to family and friends in a post to Facebook where he says he’s been drinking and taking drugs for the past 18 months. This follows rumors that he has split with his wife Sharon. In the Facebook post, Ozzy states that he and Sharon are not divorcing and that he’s getting help to keep clean and has done so for 44 days. This came on the heels of Black Sabbath announcing four dates to tour North America. The new album 13 hits shelves June 11th.

Headlining Voodoo

Nine Inch Nails and Pearl Jam will be hitting the bayou to headline the 2013 Voodoo Festival in New Orleans. It’s not Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor’s first time at Voodoo, but it will be the first time he has two bands there. His other project How To Destroy Angels will also be performing. Voodoo is November 1st through the 3rd.

Dead at 42, Thoughts and Prayers, 3D Concert Trailer, and Soliciting for Hawkins

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Chi Cheng, RIP
Chi Cheng, RIP

Dead at 42

The death of Chi Cheng, the original bassist of The Deftones, is being felt throughout the rock world this morning. Chi died over the weekend after having been in a near comatose state since a tragic car accident back in 2008. In a statement posted to the site, OneLoveForChi.com, a site dedicated to keeping fans informed about his progress, Mom J says that Chi was taken to the emergency room over the weekend where his heart stopped. He’s survived by a son Gabriel and also survived by countless fans who will forever remember the rocking and groovy bass lines Chi brought the world.

Thoughts and prayers

And rockers from across the spectrum are coming out to send their regards in the shadows of Chi Cheng’s death. Twitter was ablaze over the weekend with people like David Draiman and Slash, and bands like Lamb of God, Testiment, Red, Hatebreed, Nonpoint, Godsmack, Papa Roach, and Shinedown all taking to social media to eulogize the late bassist.

3D concert trailer

A three-and-a-half minute trailer has been posted online for Guns ‘N Roses new 3D concert video. It opens with some shots of the desert. Then a voice resembling the guy who yells about monster trucks talks about how G’NR took Vegas by storm or some crap like that. The trailer seems like something you’d see as a commercial to a late night infomercial. It almost seems like a parody. Wow. The film is expected to be in theaters this summer.

Soliciting for Hawkins

Nikki Sixx is laying out his wants for a forthcoming solo album. The multi-talented Motley Crue bassist says he wants Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins to join him in the studio to slap the skins. Sixx took to Twitter to get fans take on the idea, but it could be a pipe dream as Foo Fighters are expected to be writing new stuff for a new album. Plus Hawkins is probably tied up with his side projects, which includes a band called Chevy Metal. That’s clever.

VIP Listening Party, Three Machines, Three Songs on Kimmel and Lavigne Hooks up With Manson

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

VIP listening party

In an exclusive Black Sabbath video shown to some VIPs in the music biz, Ozzy Osbourne says of the new album ““I’m making an album I like and if someone else likes it, great.” The video, produced by Ozzy’s son Jack, was shown to invitees Wednesday in Hollywood just before a listening party for the new album 13. Even before being released, the eight song album is being dubbed one of the best metal albums of 2013. Pre-orders are going on now. The disc drops June 11th.

Three machines

Told you earlier this week about Metallica pimping some pinball machines. Well, news now has it that there will be three different machines … not just one. Pics of the Stern Pinball Metallica table tops and overall machines have been posted on line here, here and here. Diehard fans and arcades will have to fork over a pretty chunk of change … anywhere between 5 and nearly 8,000 bones. The tables will be available this May.

Avril and Manson hook up for new song

Three songs on Kimmel

The bad thing about being stuck in Central Illinois is that we can’t just pick up and check out the rockstars that perform on late night TV. The kick ass thing about the internet is that we can still experience those performances … even the ones that didn’t air on TV. Alice In Chains appeared on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel. The aired protion showed the band playing “Stone” from their forthcoming album. But you can also find the band performing “Hollow” and the classic “Man in the Box.” AIC’s new album The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here hits shelves May 28th.  Watch those performances at this link.

Lavigne hooks up with Manson

It’s a pairing that has us scratching our heads. Canadian popstar and fiancé of Nickleback’s Chad Kroeger, Avril Lavigne says that she has a colabo with Marilyn Manson on her new record. The song is called “Bad Girl.” Nice cliché. If you’re interested, which we’re not, Lavigne’s new album comes out this summer.

CSI, the TV show, is giving people a real reason to watch during sweeps. Black Sabbath will premier a new tune on the prime-time cop drama show for the finale next month. A press release from CBS states that the band, featuring all the original members except drummer Bill Ward, will perform the song “The Beginning of the End” on the season finale. In the show, several cop characters attend a Sabbath show to gather evidence on some string of murders linked with Dante’s Inferno. Producers for the show say it only made sense that for the finale of the 13th season feature a new song from Black Sabbath’s forthcoming album 13, which is expected out June 11th. The episode airs May 15th.

He quit

More trouble in camp Weiland … While out on tour, the former Stone Temple Pilots front man Scott Weiland had a bit of a shakeup in his solo act as the drummer stepped down. Drummer Danny Thomas posted on Facebook that he quit because as a matter of self worth and that he wouldn’t elaborate.

Planned tour

Killswitch Engage are set to hit the road in support of their new album Disarm the Dissent. They’ll have a show down at Pops in Sauget June 18th and then up at Mojoes in Joliet July 8th. The first album with original singer Jesse Leach debut on the charts at No. 7.

Forthcoming concert vid

Bush has a new DVD coming out titled Live at Stubb’s. The live performance video filmed in Texas back in 2011. The DVD/BlueRay features 12 live songs that span the rockers’ career. New PJ Sounds Like U2 and Floyd, Close to Completion, New Newsted Soon and New Game

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

New PJ sounds like U2 and Floyd

The new Pearl Jam is shaping up with what guitarist Mike McCready says is a mixture of U2 and Pink Floyd … just performed by Pearl Jam. Other members of the band have kept quite about the new attempt, but McCready has been willing to share the latest status of the band working on the first studio attempt since 2009. It’s reported McCready saying the band has been blowing through new material rather quickly in studio and that the they’re close to the end zone. Pearl Jam will be up at Wrigley Field to perform later this summer.

Close to completion

Speaking of wrapping up new albums—Butcher Babies' debut is coming together. The metal band fronted by two former Playboy playmates tastefully covered in fake blood and well placed electrical tape says that they’re in the final stages of producing their first album. They’ll be on tour with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival in Tinley Park July 27th.

New Newsted soon

Jason Newsted is in the final stages of completing his latest in-studio creation. The former Metallica bassist teased fans earlier this year with a new song that is definitely metal and he also announced that Staind guitarist Mike Mushok has joined his ranks. Now Newsted is updating fans that the final pieces of his forthcoming attempt are coming together. There will be a dozen shows in the states this month but then the band heads overseas for some festival appearances. No word yet on when the new songs will be released.

New game

Metallica is ready to encapsulate their 30 years of rock into a pinball machine! Fans could soon get a chance at playing a pinball machine that’s devoted to the legendary shredders. To tease the new game, the band has released a one-minute trailer that shows James Hetfield getting in the camera’s face. There are also some brief captures from inside the Stern Pinball studios where the computer concepts are made real. The new pinball machine is expected to be available for arcades and hardcore collectors soon.

Device and HOGAB Part 2 Out Today, Queens Share My God is the Sun, and From the Grave

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Device out today

It’s new music Tuesday which means you’ll be able to pick up the new Device self-titled debut. The disc from Disturbed front man David Draiman is a resurrection of industrial metal. Draiman hooked up with former Filter guitarist Geno Leonardo for the attempt. In a recent interview, Draiman said Disturbed fans are going to recognize some of the lyrical stylings, but he made a conscious effort to distinguish his voice on Device from that found on Disturbed albums. Get a sample of the album with a few songs streaming online at WQLZ.com.

HOGAB Part 2

Another album that is out today is Stone Sour’s House of Gold and Bones Part 2. The second album in the concept goes deeper into the story of a drifter confronted by life’s demons. The first in a series of comic books based on the concept is expected out in a couple of weeks.

Queens share My God is the Sun

Queens of the Stone Age have unveiled their latest track from their forthcoming album. The tune is called “My God is the Sun” and it’s from the album … Like Clockwork. From an initial listen, QOTSA fans are in for a treat. With guitar riffs and vocals that work together and build upon each other, plus Josh Homme’s don’t give an eff rocker voice, it’s only making us crave more. The ten track album is expected out sometime in June.

From the grave

If you’re in to watching some old school performance video, there’s a clip of Mad Season performing from back in the day. If you don’t recall, Mad Season featured Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready and the late Layne Staley from Alice in Chains. Layne and bassist John Baker Saunders died before the band could finish a second album.

Shinedown Hitting the Road With KISS, and Keeping Things in Perspective

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Hitting the road with KISS

Shinedown is expecting to hit the road with KISS shortly after checking into Springfield. If you missed it Friday, Brent Smith from Shinedown was on with Ray Lytle. The two talked about Shinedown going from being an opener several years ago at The Warehouse here in Springfield to eventually being the headliner for QLZ’s 20th Birthday Bash with Bush. As for how Shinedown hooked up with Bush? Brent says that it kinda just worked out that way. “Timing, man, it’s just what happened. It’s interesting. We’re going ot do this run and then we’ve got two weeks off then we’re going to do a promo tour all June and then we’re going to open up for KISS in Canada … then announce a tour with KISS in the US.”  Smith says they haven’t announced all the details on that tour yet.

Keeping things in perspective

Smith also notes the ups and downs of the rock world in that on-air interview Friday with Ray Lytle. Smith talked about how if bands don’t take note of what’s around the corner they could get the rug pulled violently from underneath them. As for Shinedown, Brent says the band has learned a lot so far. “We’ve always looked at our surroundings and assess our situation. We’re a very methodical band. We’re very organized and we’re very scheduled and that comes from the experience from back in the day when we were young and stupid and doing things we shouldn’t have been to be doing. And were lucky enough to learn from our mistakes and not repeat them.” Brent says it is a business and that there’s always someone younger and better looking and if you don’t pay attention to your team, fans and audience, you could easily find yourself left in the dust.

Shinedown will be with Bush and Airbourne May 7th at the Prairie Capital Convention Center for QLZ’s 20th Birthday Bash. Get your tickets now.

New Song Teased With Release of Album Cover, Silver Screen Time, Producer Draiman and Free Download

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

New song teased with release of album cover

The album cover for Black Sabbath’s forthcoming album 13 isn’t really anything to write home about now that it’s been revealed—it’s just the number 13 on fire. What’s worth writing home about is the video showing the number 13 burning in reverse with a snippit of a new Sabbath song! Sabbath, excluding drummer Bill Ward, got back together with Ozzy for the first time in years and have been hammering out a new album. The release date is expected June 11th.

Silver screen time

Foo Fighter’s drummer Taylor Hawkins has picked up a new gig … this time he’s acting in a movie about the famed New York night club CBGB. In the movie, Hawkins plays Iggy Pop. The first photo of his portrayal is circulating online. The film expected out sometime next year.

Producer Draiman

He’s on a hiatus with the band that put him on top of the rock world and now Disturbed’s David Draiman is getting involved in all kinds of projects. His new side project Device has caught the attention of the industry and now he’s ready to show off his production skills. In an interview with Loudwire, Draiman says he’s working with Trivium on what could be their defining moment. He’s only tweaking their nobs for the record. He’s not a guest vocalist or anything. No word yet on when that album will be out, but Device hits shelves this coming Tuesday.

Free download

Also hitting shelves this Tuesday is Stone Sour’s House of Gold and Bones Part 2. The band has offered up the tune “Gravesend” as a free download. The entire album is streaming online at the band’s website.

Today with Ray

Be listening later on today when Ray Lytle interviews Brent from Shinedown. Surely they’ll talk about the band out on the road touring and also the upcoming 20th Birthday Bash for QLZ featuring Airbourne, Bush and Shinedown May 7th at the Prairie Capital Convention Center (tickets on sale now).

Head-lining, More Dates, #AIC23, and New Skid Row Album Soon

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Head-lining

Korn is taking to the road with Head for a headlining tour and May 25th, the band will be down at The Peabody in St. Louis. Head left the band nearly 7 years ago to clean up his life and find God. Now, after years of being away from his Korn brothers, the band welcomes him back into the band … but it isn’t permanent. Head recently said that the band is taking it slow right now, but I don’t think a slew of festival shows overseas, Rock on the Range here in the states alongside 9 different stops across the country is taking it slow.  Be sure to watch Head visit Lincoln's Tomb when he was in town last week.

More dates

Buckcherry have added a few more dates to their tour. The band is out supporting their most recent attempt Confessions. They’re with Kid Rock playing a few shows in Michigan early this month. Later this month they’ll be in Australia, Japan and back to the states. Confessions is out now.

#AIC23

Call it a genius marketing stunt—Alice in Chains have teamed up with the celebrity produced video website Funny or Die to give fans a mockumentary titled AIC23. The 12 minute feature includes cameos from other bands like Metallica, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and more. This is all in anticipation of the band’s new album The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here which hits shelves May 28th. The mockumentary is the latest in a series of promotions dating way back to December when the band gave fans the single “Hallow.” A few weeks ago they released “Stone.” Now this? Well played, guys! Well played!.  Watch below or at this link.

New album soon

It’s been years since Skid Row released new material and now their announcing their latest attempt United World Rebellion Chapter One. The disc will drop April 16th. This will be the first in a series of albums the band plans on releasing.

Sin City Residency, Opening Old Wounds, New Album Streaming and New Song Streaming

Sin City residency

If you missed Motley Crue serving out their residency in Las Vegas, don’t worry … they’re at it again. The band has announced they’re bringing their depravity back to Sin City for another 12-day run. That’s gonna be later this year between September 18 and October 6. With the new residency, they’ll have an entirely new set design. In other Crue news, the band may have ruffled some feathers the other day at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. A Twitter message posted by bassist Nikki Sixx shows a trashed bed in the middle of the hotel’s parking lot. The bed was allegedly dropped out of an 11th story window in an obvious publicity stunt to drum up interest in their new residency stint.

Opening old wounds

An updated episode of VH1’s “Behind the Music” about Pantera hits your cable box this Saturday even though former front man Phil Anselmo resents how he and the band were portrayed in the last airing back in 2006. The updated episode features more interviews in the aftermath of Dimebag’s fatal shooting. Check your local listings.

New album streaming

It doesn’t come out until next Tuesday, but you can now stream Stone Sour’s forthcoming album House of Gold and Bones Part 2. The concept double album is about a guy who is traveling through life on a mission but is being chased by the dregs of society. The comic book series comes out in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, front man Corey Taylor says he wants to make a movie of the concept.

New song streaming

They’ll be in Springfield with Shinedown and Bush and now the Australian rockers Airbourne have released a lyric video for their tune “Live It Up.” The Forthcoming album Black Dog Barking doesn’t hit shelves until May 21st. The band will be at QLZ’s 20th B-day bash May 7th. Tickets on sale now at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.

You're Doing it Wrong, Southern Hemisphere Song Premier, Appearing on New Album, and New Album Teaser

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

You’re doing it wrong

Lollapalooza doesn’t quite understand how April Fools day is supposed to work. Instead of posting a completely made up lineup of fictitious bands like Bill and Ted’s Wild Stallions and others, the Chicago festival organizers instead chose to release the official lineup on Apirl Fools. This is after over the weekend the Chicago Tribune reported on a leaked festival poster with all the bands named, including Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails and others. The official announcement was supposed to be April 9th, but they clearly jumped the gun. Make plans to attend the three days of Music August 2nd through the 4th.

Southern hemisphere song premier

Speaking of Lollapalooza, one of the featured artists to play in Chicago is Queens of the Stone Age. Their new album will be out by the time they take the stage, but down at Lollapalooza Brazil, the band premiered the new tune “My God is the Sun.” Pro-shot video of that performance is available online.

Appearing on new album

The forthcoming Megadeth album will have a special guest, Disturbed front man David Draiman. A Twitter message from Draiman dropped the bomb and Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine quickly confirmed via the social media network that Draiman lent his voice on the tunes “Forget to Remember” and “Dance in the Rain.” The album Super Collider comes out June 4th.

New album teaser

Chaos-core metalers The Dillinger Escape Plan has released a preview of their forthcoming album. The band’s most recent attempt “One of Us is the Killer” exemplifies their unique sound of quick changing riffs with a mix of melody and blood curdling screams. The 6 ½ minute trailer will surely wet your appitite for the new album which comes out May 14th. The Dillinger Escape Plan headlines the Summer Slaughter Tour which is set to kick off July 19th. Dates and venues have yet to be announced.

Leaked Lineup, Warped Tour Announced, Streaming Ahead of Release, and Petitioning SNL

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

The leaked poster
The leaked poster

Leaked lineup

Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age will be at Lollapalooza this summer in Chicago, that is if a leaked tour poster is correct. Billboard spilled the beans months ago that NIN would be playing Lollapalooza, but that was never confirmed by the band or by concert organizers. The Chicago Tribute got their hands on a leaked poster that confirmed Nails and also Queens of the Stone Age. Now, there are ton more other folksy-type music on the docket, but even those aren’t fully confirmed. I wonder if the unpaid intern that leaked the poster got to keep his job. Organizers plan on officially announcing the lineup April 9th.

Warped Tour Announced

The Vans Warped Tour will be hitting up Tinley Park, Illinois July 20th, and at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheater July 24th, and with it comes a mix of hard rock and heavy metal acts plus some punk, hip hop and electronica artists. Festival organizer Kevin Lyman says that when he brought the tour together back in 1995, he always wanted it to be about diversity in music. When it comes to the harder bands, fans can expect to see Black Vail Brides, Black Dahlia Murder, Used and others.

Streaming ahead of release

A couple of releases to tell you about: Device has released a new song from their forthcoming album. Streaming online you should be able to hear David Draiman with Lizzy Hale covering the classic Ozzy/Litta Ford tune “Close My Eyes Forever.” Device drops next week.

Stone Sour is streaming a new tune online and also posted a 50-second trailer of their comic book (watch below). The new song “Gravesend” can be streamed through Rolling Stone. House of Gold and Bones Part 2 comes out next week. The comics hit shelves April 17th.

Petitioning SNL

Slipknot on Saturday Night Live? That would be bad ass, and a push from fans with a petition is calling for just that! Plus, it’s got the backing of front man Corey Taylor and percussionist Shawn Clown Crahan and Roadrunner Records! I think its safe to say that it also has the backing of 92.7 QLZ. A Facebook page devoted to the attempt already has nearly 14,000 Likes.
