You All Have Just Been Lizard Licked, Captivating, and New video out

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

You all have just been lizard licked!

It was a packed house at Boondocks for the in this moment show and openers Love and Death. Brian “Head” Welch was in studio with Dawg who talked about his daughter being his best friend. Head and Love and Death’s bassist Valentine made it out to Abraham Lincoln’s tomb here in the Capital City and our camera was there. See that video online at During last night’s show Love and Death covered “Whip It” off their album Between Here & Lost. Immediately after, they started playing the riff to Rick Springfield’s “Jesse’s Girl”. They quickly cut that off and covered some Korn tunes. Head also talked about how he has everything in storage as he gets ready to head out in the road with Korn.

QLZ Takes Head to Lincoln

In This Moment didn’t disappoint. Thursday’s show at Boondocks was packed with adoring fans who were able to get up close and personal with the band. Front woman Maria Brink was right when she said each song was a different scene. There was plenty of fog, costume changes, and props as the band absolutely killed it! Be sure to support local rock shows and hit up Boondocks for more shows, including Sevendust May 18th.

New video out

Stone Sour has released the animated video for the tune “Do Me A Favor” from the forthcoming album House of Gold and Bones: Part 2. The video takes the later part of the story and concept from the double album with a lot of action. Stone Sour will hit the road with In This Moment for a tour throughout April.

Sin City Inspiration and Letting It All Out

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Sin City inspiration

Las Vegas has the highs and lows—which is perfect for a band wanting material for an album. That’s according to Adrian Patrick from the band Otherwise. They were in town yesterday with Pop Evil at Boondocks. Before the show, the band stopped in to talk with QLZ’s Lars and Lytle (mp3 download). Patrick said that forming a band in Sin City helped get a grasp on a wide range of what life can throw at you. “It’s a town of extremes light and dark and we try to encapsulate that on the album True Love Never Dies.” Patrick says that there’s something for everyone in Otherwise’s music. “Happiness, extreme sadness, and anger, There’s a party song on the album … just like the town, man, if it wasn’t for that city we wouldn’t be who we are or make the music we make.”  Listen to the podcast below:

Letting it all out

Tonight, In This Moment will be at Boondocks and you’ll see a side of front woman Maria Brink that hasn’t been seen until this year. Monday on QLZ with Lars and Lytle, Brink said that fans can expect an explosive performance. Brink says she loves the theatre and really wants to put on a full on show. “The Theatrical kinda pop-side of things like Michael Jackson all these really spectacular shows. … All the way up to until this year I don’t know what was wrong with me or what I was holding back for but I really want to put on a show now. So, literally every song is like a different scene with something happening. And the show is like from beginning to end is gonna keep people interested. Every. Single. Song.” Brink and the boys from In This Moment will be at Boondocks with Brian Head Welch’s band Love and Death tonight. Tickets are $15.  Listen to Brink on Lars and Lytle below (or at this link).

Writing new album

Billy Corgan has announced his band Smashing Pumpkins are in the process of writing new music. The band is also gearing up for a bunch of on-the-road dates this May which will take them through parts of the Southern US, then it’s off to Europe this summer all to end up in Japan this August. Corgan hopes to have a follow up to last year’s Oceania sometime in 2014.

New video out

If you thought the latest Sevendust song was bad ass, wait until you see the video. The band has revealed the video for “Decay” off the forthcoming album Black Out The Sun which is out this week! The video, released through Fuse’s YouTube channel, looks to be shot on old-school Super-8 film. The band pulls up to what appears to be mansion of sorts where they bring in their equipment to rock the joint. There’s a whole bunch of strange characters that show up to mess with the band. We may have to sit back and pull out some old Sigmund Freud books to really get what’s going on. Sevendust will be in Springfield at Boondocks Saturday May 18th.

New single out

A new single from Alice In Chains is out. From the forthcoming album The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, fans can now hear the tune “Stone.” We won’t be able to get our hands on the album until May 28th, but the tune is now available online. You can preview a clip of the song online below (audio code from Loudwire).

Respecting the On-Tour Code

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Respecting the on-tour code

Maria Brink from In This Moment says that she’s honored to tour with Stone Sour for the upcoming “Revolver Road To Golden Gods,” but don’t expect her band to be pulling off any pranks on Corey Taylor. During an interview with QLZ’s Lars and Lytle, Brink talked about how when bands get together for tours, you have to respect the code.

“You don’t prank up,” Brink told the guys.

“You prank down.” She said for the upcoming tour which kicks off in April, In This Moment is “main support and that’s kind of the rule of tours. The main headliners prank down. Unless the whole tour is like everyone hangs out every single day and everyone totally parties together all the time, then you can do that but usually it doesn’t happen like that.”

Listen to the entire interview below or at this link.

Brink also talked about how her fans don't hit on her, but she has been proposed to many times but the fans are just being silly. She also says that her looks aren't the only thing that gets them recognized. The band as a whole has their fair share of nominations for the music. Also, Brink wants fans to keep an eye out for the "Adrenalize" video, which she says should be making the rounds online very soon.

In This Moment is set to be at Boondocks Thursday with Brian “Head” Welch’s band Love and Death and All Hail the Yeti. Tickets are $15. Be listening for your chance to win tickets and a chance to meet and greet the band.

Ankle Injury, Teasing the New Album

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Ankle injury

Bass in the hospital with an ankle injury
Bass in the hospital with an ankle injury

Shinedown bassist Eric Bass was held up at a hospital a few days ago after he suffered a second degree ankle sprain. Details are sketchy as to how the incident happened, but it was on stage in Texas. The band posted an up close pick of Bass’s ankle alongside the bassist on stage, resting upon a stool. Shinedown will be with Bush and Airbourne at the Prairie Capital Convention Center May 7th for QLZ’s 20th Birthday Bash.

Teasing the new album

If you go to Queens of the Stone Age’s website, you’ll see a big “Q” and a random audio snippet will play. If you refresh, a new audio snippet will play. If you refresh again, another snippet plays. If you keep hitting refresh on your browser, new clips will play and you’ll probably see some faint text that says “JUNE.” Could that be when the new album is out? Online reports indicate that the site also says “… Like Clockwork,” which could be the title of the new attempt. There are some heavy hitters on the album including Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor and others.

Big Rock Week, New Album at Some Point, and Solid Release Date

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Big rock week

It’s a big week for rock fans in Springfield as we prepare for two big shows at Boondocks. Wednesday it’s Pop Evil with Otherwise for a 21+ show. Tickets are available at Boondocks (or online). Tickets are only $10, which makes it a low dough show … fo’ sho’. Then Thursday at Boondocks, All Hail the Yeti with Brian “Head” Welch’s band Love and Death joining In This Moment on stage! Tickets for that show are only $15 (available at Boondocks or online)! Be sure to be listening to Springfield’s Concert Leader 92.7 QLZ to win tickets and meet and greet with In This Moment! Also, don’t miss out on In This Moment’s Maria Brink appearing with Lars and Lytle later today! Plus, we’ll have in-studio guests and performances later this week. All of this is a way to ring in 92.7 QLZ’s 20th Birthday Celebration. See you at Boondocks this week!

New album at some point

System of a Down’s drummer John Dolmayan has come out with some much welcomed news for SOAD fans … there will be a new album … at some point. Dolmayan told a radio station out west that the band will put out a new album … it just has to be the right time. Until then, SOAD fans will just have to hear about them playing live shows in far away lands.

Solid release date

Alice in Chains have released more details about their forthcoming album – the second with new singer William Duval. Details have been slow to trickle out from the band, but we now have a solid date and track listing. Expect The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here out May 28th. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell says that the title of the album indicates it’s gonna be a critique of modern day religious zealots who portray themselves as accepting, loving and caring but tend to show bigotry, intolerance and greed instead. A new single from the album named “Stone” is expected out tomorrow.

Playing Sturgis

Halestorm is gonna rock Sturgis. News has it that the band will be playing for a ton of bad ass bikers at the 2013 Sturgis Buffalo Chip Motorcycle Rally and Music Festival August 4th in South Dakota. The band will be opening up for ZZ Top. An organizer with the event said that Halestorm is unstoppable, and their recent Grammy Award proves that. Kid Rock is also set to rock the stage at Sturgis, as is Sublime with Rome. So all you bikers planning your summer time treks, be sure to put Sturgis on that list. Sturgis runs from August 2nd through the 11th.

New album in the works

AC/DC is working on new material. That’s according to band bassist Cliff Williams. The band isn’t in the studio at the moment, but the Brother Young (Angus and Malcolm) are working on piecing together new riffs for new songs. This will be the first album from the band since 2008’s Black Ice. No word yet on a possible release date.

Toying With The Idea, Smoke Bombs Make Great Photo Ops, Rediscovering Old Videos, and Kind of a Golden Ticket

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Toying with the idea

Dave Grohl knows how to keep the buzz going. In a recent interview with NME magazine Grohl says during the whole development of the Sound City Players, he and other members of Nirvana contemplated getting the band back together and fronting it with PJ Harvey for a few Nirvana songs. Apparently, Kurt Cobain loved Harvey. Grohl wanted her to sing “Milk It” from the album In Utro, but Harvey wasn’t immediately available, so they didn’t do it. As for any other possible Nirvana reunion combinations, Grohl says it has to be just right and a remembrance of what the band was. He doesn’t want to do it an injustice and that’s why Foo Fighters doesn’t cover Nirvana songs.

Smoke bombs make great photo ops

Marilyn Manson played the Mary prankster with paparazzi on the red carpet of a movie Premiers. The shock rocker decided to set off a few smoke bombs as he was leaving the premier party of Spring Breakers. Some media thought something was on fire, but Manson was long gone before the Los Angeles Fire Department showed up. It’s all on video!

Rediscoving old videos

Nine Inch Nails have released some old-school videos online. Diehard fans will remember the Closure VHS that came out in the late 90s … a video that showed the band during the 1994 Self Destruct tour on stage and back stage … all over the place—it’s pretty crazy and NSFW. That’s now available online to view for free. Also, the band released a video from the Still CD. Watch Reznor perform a live version of “The Becoming,” as was recorded back in 2002.

Closure - Part 1 (NSFW)

Kind of a golden ticket

There are only 5,000 copies of Tool’s 21st anniversary release of Opiate and 5 lucky fans who are able to get one of those 5,000 copies will have find a “Seal of Xatanitos” … which will be unique artwork created by guitarist Adam Jones. Those fans who get the seal and present it will get an even more special prize. Very Willy Wonka-esque from the guys at Tool HQ. The album will be available for order tomorrow for Tool Army members and for the general public next week.

Take Advantage of Early Music Ed, Taken Advantage Of, New Song Previewed, and New Newsted Member

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Take advantage of early music ed

Drummer Chad Smith
Chili Peppers Drummer Chad Smith

Red Hot Chili Peppers Chad Smith was in DC testifying to Congress yesterday about the importance of early music education. The longtime drummer said he never got private lessons. All of his music knowledge comes from what he learned in public schools. He also says he met his first girlfriend, a French horn player named Julie, in 5th grade music class. As for making him a better student, Smith says that he wouldn’t have graduated if it weren’t for music classes.

Taken advantage of

Early music education wasn’t all that glamorous for one rocker. Garbage’s Shirley Manson said last week that she had relations with a music teacher when she was 15. The story goes that he seduced her and took her to his van after class. She’s talked about it before in the past but her most recent comments indicates that the music teacher was doing it to other girls as well. That’s sparked an investigation by the Edinburgh City Council in Scotland. They are now scouring through records from the 80s to find evidence of the crimes.

New song previewed

Five Finger Death Punch are going to co-headline the Rockstar Mayhem Festival this year and to promote their jaunt, they’ve put out a trailer. The video shows the band performing on stage at a variety of venues. Fans will notice the music in the beginning as hit FFDP songs. But if they watch the hole thing they’ll get a sneak peak at some new music the band will premier out on the road this summer. The band shared during the Mayhem Festival press conference that they’re in the middle of the new recording and the album will be out in due time. Mayhem hits up Tinley Park July 27th.

New Newsted member

Jason Newsted is getting back into it with his new band Newsted. The band released a video not long ago to much acclaim. Now, Newsted welcomes Stained guitarist Mike Mushok to the band. Watch the video below or at this link. There are some festival dates overseas and a new album expected very soon.

Festival Announced, Free Song Download, New Album Deets, and SOAD Tour

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Festival announced

The 2013 Rockstar Mayhem Festival has been announced and it’s got ome heavy hitters. Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch and Mastodon are some of the bigger names, but the Jagermeister Stage will feature some even heavier acts like Machine Head, Job for a Cowboy, the sexy as hell Butcher Babies and others. There will be a third stage sponsored by Musician’s Institute where rockers will be able to rock with Children of Bodom and others. The festival will be at Tinley Park’s First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre July 27th.

Free song download

Filter plans to release a new album titled The Sun Comes Out Tonight. The band signed on with a new label this year and announced they’d release a new album, but now the details have come into focus. The band is even offering up the new tune “We Hate It When You Get What You Wanted” for free to people who drop in their email addy. Do that online at Expect the album out June 4th.

New album deets

Details about a new 30 Seconds to Mars album are out, and so is the first single from the forthcoming attempt. The band actually debuted the song “Up In The Air” during the launch of a recent Space-X flight that sent a cargo load to the International Space Station earlier this month. Now the tune is available to the public streaming online. The band will release the album Love Lust Faith + Dreams May 21st.  Listen to "Up In The Air" below or at this link.

SOAD tour

System of a Down are getting back together to tour … but as for shows in the US, they have only one scheduled, and that’s in in Hollywood. The band, which parted ways several years ago so members could focus on other projects, will perform for the Hollywood Bowl July 29th. The rest of their tour is in countries like Russia, Finland, Poland, Germany, Italy and others. There’s no word on if or when the band will put out a new album.

Tour date confirmed

Black Sabbath is gearing up for the release of their first album with Ozzy Osbourne in decades and with that album will be a tour. The big question is when will they be in the US? Well, they’ve got a confirmed date in Canada August 14th. It’s expected that the band will be touring North America through July and September. The band announced late 2011 that they’d get back together for a new album but they suffered a few setbacks with Tony Iommi getting diagnosed with cancer and the band having contractual problems with original drummer Bill Ward. The new album, titled 13 is expected out this summer.

Remembering the pipe

Speaking of Ozzy, Rob Zombie is out in an interview with Fuse at SXSW about doing some crazy stuff with the likes of Ozzy and Rick James. Now, if you’re familiar with the wild things Rick James and Ozzy are known for, you can imagine what the three were up to. Zombie has a big year with his latest movie Lords of Salem out April 19th and the album Venamous Rat Regeneration Vendor out April 23rd.

Writing therapy

He’s out of rehab and finding something new to occupy his time … Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong is writing more music, this time for another theatrical play. The New York Times reports that Armstrong is helping with the music for These Paper Bullets. The play is a rock opera based on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The final production is expected March of 2014. Surely this is something that will help keep Armstrong from hitting the phara and booze bottles. Armstrong wrote the music for American Idiot which has been very successful on Broadway.

Starring debut

Godsmack’s Sully Erna is ready to make his debut on the silver screen. The front man will have a role in the featured film Army of the Damned. Erna will join a bunch of no-named actors, some pro-wrestlers and also N-Sync star Joey Fatone. The movie is about some cops, which Erna will play one, who are followed by a reality TV crew when they stumble upon something horrific. Filming for that masterpiece starts in April.

Tickets for QLZ's 20th Birthday Bash on sale Saturday March 16th

Covering Wish

When he said his new project Device would be a reinvention of industrial heavy metal, David Draiman was right. It’s being reported that the deluxe edition of the band’s self titled, expected out next month, will include a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ hard and heavy tune "Wish" from way back in 1992. And though Trent Reznor isn’t appearing on the album, Draiman has talked about some other heavy hitters joining the release including M. Shadows, Serj Tankian, Tom Morello, Geezer Butler, Lizzy Hale and others. The first single “Vilify” is out now. The album drops in all formats April 9th.

Record Store Day release

April 20th is Record Store Day and a ton of artists are coming out with updates on what they’ll have available for fans wanting to peruse a brick-and-mortar store for new music. Soundgarden says they will release some demos from their most recent album King Animal. For the uninitiated, demos are the tracks the band cuts before getting into a studio with a producer and re-recording polished songs. Soundgarden’s release will be on a pink, 10-inch vinyl. Go check out for a participating location near you.

Yeah, yeah, yeahs ...

Oh, and here’s a nice Friday gem for all you Metallica fans … a very studious audio engineer decided to piece together all of Metallica front man James Hetfield’s “yeahs” that appear in recordings. Listen to that wonderful 3 minute clip online below or at this link.

Rock Icons Sound Off About New Pope, Dude Died Outside Volbeat Show and No New Album Expected

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Rock icons sound off about new pope

So, just who in the rock world is reacting to the election of a new pope? A few notables include Ozzy Osbourne and Anthrax’s Scott Ian. The election of Pope Francis the I yesterday splashed world news as Catholics around the globe now have a new leader for the Holy See. In a Tweet from Ozzy Osbourne, he references #sweetleaf because of the white smoke that came pouring out of the Sistine Chapel.

Meanwhile Scott Ian didn’t have too many nice things to say. His tweet, full of expletives about who cares, says for someone to notify him when King Diamond is elected pope. When that happens, we’ll send you the smoke signals, Scott.

Dude died outside Volbeat show

A man has died after fleeing from security at a Volbeat show in Texas. Lubbock, Texas, media reports that the 39-year-old was attempting to enter the venue where Volbeat was performing. The thing is, dude was trying to jump a fence. When security spotted him he ran and then fell 20 feet off a roof and hit his head on the concrete. Jubal Colvin was early stopped from entering the venue because he had a knife. The radio station promoting the show posted to their website that it really was a senseless accident which apparently involved alcohol and didn’t need to happen.  Watch a Texas media report about the incident below:

KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

No new album expected

There’s a bit more insight into what’s going to happen with Nine Inch Nails this year. Front man Trent Reznor, having just released a full length album with his side project How to Destroy Angels, tells NME magazine in the UK that the band will be touring … possibly with some new music. But that new music is something that was meant for a best of compilation. He says there isn’t a plan for a new album … at this time. Only 5 dates have been posted to Nine Inch Nail’s website, but a full blown arena tour in the US is expected this fall.

Publicity Stunt or Planned Antics, Home Video of Tour, It's Gonna Be Like The Wall, and Festival-At-Sea

Some sign language for all the haters ...
Some sign language for all the haters ...

Publicity stunt or planned antics

Who didn’t see this coming? Scott Weiland’s solo tour is becoming a sideshow. He’s reported to have challenged a heckling fan to a fight at a recent show in New York (video), plus he’s quoted as having some strange ramblings at a show in DC. The former Stone Temple Pilots front man, something he’ll deny and say was just a publicity stunt to sell tickets to his solo tour (yeah, that makes sense), singled out a heckling fan in New York, saying dude wasted his money to go to the show. Meanwhile Tweets from attendees of a DC show quote Weilend saying he thinks President Obama and news anchorman Peter Jennings are awesome.

Home video of tour

Butcher Babies, the hardcore metal band fronted by two former Playboy playmates, has released a new video showing the band on their recent tour with Marilyn Manson. The video is essentially a home video of them performing on stage to thousands of fans.  Watch that video below or at this link

It's gonna be like The Wall

The forthcoming 3D Metallica movie is gonna be a lot like Pink Floyd's The Wall, according to an actor playing a central role. It's been reported that the movie, titled Through The Never, will be a mixture of live performance footage with a storyline featuring a stagehand. The actor, Dane DeHaan, says in the movie he's asked to go on a task for the band and literally goes through hell to fulfill their request. There's an expected theatrical release date of August 9th.

Weezer is getting ready another cruise. A video (below or at this link) featuring highlights from the last Weezer cruise was recently posted online and it shows fans rocking out to a series of bands while afloat at sea. As of right now, Weezer is the only band on the docket, but there will be more announced soon. The band also announced a private island beech party. The festival-at-sea is scheduled for February 13th thru the 17th out of Jacksonville, Florida to the Bahamas and back. Tickets are $599 and pre-sale kicks off March 20th.  More details can be found here.

Quick Recovery From Surgery, Tour Official, Old School Performance and World Tour Planned

Quick recovery from surgery

Vince Neil had to undergo emergency kidney stone surgery after being rushed from a concert in Australia over the weekend. The Motley Crue front man forced the early end to the show in Sydney Sunday because of intense pain. Bassist Nikki Sixx took to Facebook to update fans that Neil is a trooper and the surgery was successful. Sixx equated Neil to an athlete who takes to the field with an injury for the love of the game and says he’s seen the singer go on stage with broken bones and torn ligaments, but the kidney stone pain was just too much to bare. Neil later took to Facebook to say his surgeon is giving the green light for the singer to appear in Brisbane this week.

Tour official

We told you last week that there was sure to be an announcement of Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson touring … thanks to a few dates posted on Cooper’s website along with a revealing poster of the Shock Therapy Tour. Now it’s official, the two will be hitting up a few venues across the country, including a show in St. Charles, Missouri, June 25th and in Rockford, Illinois, June 28th.

Old school performance

As a way to entice fans for the upcoming album, Black Sabbath has released vintage performance videos on YouTube. The 24 minute video of the band’s 1975 performance on Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert shows the original members of the band, including estranged drummer Bill Ward, performing some classic tunes.  Watch that video below or at this link. At that time they were playing in support of their album Sabatoge. Now the band is ramping up for their first album in decades. Titled 13, that album is expected out sometime this summer.

World tour planned

Smashing Pumpkins have announced a tour that includes a few dates in the states and even more in Europe. The band then will end their tour this summer in Japan. The band fronted by Billy Corgan has joined with stage producer Sean Evans who has worked with Roger Waters on some pretty stunning sets. So surely, it’s gonna be a visually stimulating show, but you won’t find the Pumpkins around here. The closest they’re scheduled to central Illinois is Columbus, Ohio May 18th. Then they’re off to Germany.

Special Guests, It's Gonna be Dirty, New Lyric Video and Nothing Like a Good Knighting

The cover of Volbeat's forthcoming album

Special guests

The new Volbeat record is coming together with some heavy hitters of metal. Not only has former Anthrax guitarist Rob Cagiano joined the band, but the Danish rockers also have welcomed into studio fellow Danish metal legend King Diamond. The album titled Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies, which is due out April 9th, will also feature a slew of various characters and themes. From man Michael Poulsen says that the album is going to be quintessential Volbeat, but even more of “the rockabilly stuff, the melodies, the ultra-heavy stuff, the Western motifs and the big rock songs. It’s everything that Volbeat are all about, but taken even further.” This will be the bands 5th attempt.

It's gonna be dirty

Speaking of forthcoming albums, Alice In Chains guitarist and spokesman Jerry Cantrell says that the new album is going to have some real filth to it. Due out in May and titled The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, it’ll be the second full length album with singer William Duval. Cantrell says the band is growing in their sound and fans are going to notice some distinct changes. Meanwhile, their latest single “Hollow” is rocking the charts. Request it today on QLZ.

New lyric video

In This Moment has released a lyric video for the tune “Adrenalize”. The video (below or at this link) shows a dingy hallway that seems to be falling apart then zooms out to show a decrepit house. As with all other lyric videos, the lyrics come in full force and dominate the screen. One good thing about lyric videos … it helps ingrain the tune in your head so when you see them live you can sing along with front woman Maria Brink. In This Moment will be at Boondocks in Springfield March 28th.

Nothing like a good knighting

An Australian woman has gotten her 500th signature on a petition to Knight Ozzy Osbourne and surely she’ll get a ton more. Helen Maidiotis says she wanted to get the whole band knighted but figured it would be best to just focus on Ozzy at first and then move on from there. In other Osbourne news, Ozzy’s daughter Kelly is hospitalized after suffering seizures. The Seizure happened while she was filming her E! show “Fashion Police.” Not further details were available.

Remember Daniel, Device Trailer Online, and D-Bag Questions Get Harsh Responses

Remember Daniel

Surely the band wants to wash their hands of the whole ordeal after their front man was found innocent, but they’re still focused on the life that was lost. Shortly after being found innocent of manslaughter charges in a Prague court Tuesday, Randy Blythe took to his instagram to announce the news. But he also was sure to point out that people should not forget to remember the real victim—Daniel Nosek. Blythe said that people should keep Daniel and his family “in your thoughts & prayers in this difficult time. I only wish for them peace.” Drummer Chris Adler echoes that sentiment saying that the band is ready to move on but “are still saddened by the loss of Daniel Nosek. The trial may be over, but the loss is forever and we also continue to mourn.” The band has a festival date scheduled this Spring and surely there’ll be more dates to follow.

Device trailer online

David Draiman’s side project Device has released a trailer for their upcoming self-titled debut. Watch the minute-and-a-half trailer below or at this link. Device comes out next month.

D-bag questions get harsh responses

Trent Reznor didn’t turn the other cheek during an online chat to promote his side project’s forthcoming album. The Nine Inch Nails front man took to Reddit with his band mates from How To Destroy Angels. Most fans on the chat were cordial, except for one who asked why, as millionaires, the band decided to sign with a major label for the upcoming Welcome to Oblivion release. The d-bag question even went as far as to compare Trent to Gene Simmons from KISS and asked when there’s gonna be some Nine Inch Nails toothpaste. Reznor fired back “Sorry, the WiFi on our yacht is having issues. We can’t get your full question to load. Try sending me an email at gof—yourself@youc—.com.” Band mate Rob Sheridan later said the question was asked in a way that didn’t deserve a response. How To Destory Angels’ Welcome To Oblivion come out next week with a tour this spring. Nine Inch Nails are set to tour with a rebooted band later this year with some overseas shows and it’s also rumored they’ll be a Lalpalooza as well.

Innocent of Manslaughter, Showing Support, Shaping a Shock Rock Tour, and He's Not Already Dead?

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Innocent of manslaughter

Randy Blythe's pic posted with his message of freedom

More information is emerging from the overseas verdict of Lamb of God front man Randy Blythe. The singer was acquitted Tuesday morning in a Czech court where he was facing manslaughter charges in the death of a fan who died of head injuries days after falling from a Lamb of God stage. As reported yesterday, the three-judge panel found the singer not guilty after hearing from a slew of witnesses. One thing that didn’t make its way into the courts was a video that purportedly showed Blythe throwing the victim off the stage. Blythe and crew are expected to pick up where they left off with their first show booked this year—more are sure to follow.

Showing support

Rockers from across the spectrum are coming out with feedback about Blythe’s not guilty verdict. Twitter was ablaze yesterday with everyone from Duff McKagan to Gwar’s Oderus Urungus to Pantera to Nonpoint, David Draiman and more. All had words of congratulations for the Lamb of God front man who was acquitted of murder charges in Prague Tuesday.

Tour poster found on Cooper's website

Shaping a shock rock tour

Though there are only two shows scheduled right now, it’s surely going to grow into something bigger. Marilyn Manson has joined up with fellow shock rocker Alice Cooper for a few shows this July. There are a few weeks in-between the two scheduled shows—one being in Utah in early June and the other Pennsylvania in late June. Does that mean there’ll be a tour stretched out between those two locations in the month of June? Being as there is already a tour posted circulating online and a Tour Terror section at Alice Coopers website, it seems certain. We’ll keep you posted on future dates.

He's not already dead?

You can chose to believe this or not, but Iggy Pop is making a comeback with his band The Stooges. The aging and shirtless punk rocker has a new single that’s streaming online called “Burn” and is expected to be featured on the forthcoming album Ready To Die due out April 30th.  Listen to the new Iggy tune below or at this link.

Breaking: Randy Blythe Acquitted of Manslaughter Charges

Randy Blythe, the embattled lead singer of Lamb of God, has been acquitted of manslaughter charges, according to overseas press (here and here).

Blythe was accused of manslaughter in the death of a fan who was reportedly thrown off a Prague stage in 2010.  The fan dies nearly a dozen days after the accident.
I have been found not guilty & acquitted of all charges against me. I am a free man. This photo was taken by my friend @aceyslade- it says it all. Please remember the family of Daniel Nosek in your thoughts & prayers in this difficult time. I only wish for them peace. Thank you for your support- Randy

Blythe was facing 10 years in prison and hundreds of thousands in fines, but after testimony from two security guards, two psychologists, a 19-year-old witness, a police chief and a biomechanical expert, a three-judge panel found the singer not guilty!

The band foresaw the not guilty verdict a couple of weeks ago when they booked a festival show overseas for later this year.

Blythe's Fate Could Come Today, Streaming Online, and Record Store Day Metal

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

Randy Blythe

Blythe's fate could come today

The verdict is likely to be read today in the overseas case against Lamb of God front man Randy Blythe. According to reports, the Prague court heard from several witnesses, including two security guards, a 19-year-old fan and two psychologists. The young fan says she saw Blythe throw the victim off the stage. One security guard contradicted that testimony. The two psychologists were split on whether Blythe showed antisocial behavior. A verdict could be handed down today after more testimony from a police chief and a biomechanics expert. It’s been a grueling few years for Blythe as he faces manslaughter charges in the death of a fan who suffered a head injury after being thrown off the stage at a Lamb of God show. The fan died several days after the concert. That was back in 2010. Blythe was held in a Prague jail for several weeks late last year and his trial last month was postponed until this week. If convicted Blythe could get 10 years.  Watch news report below or at this link.

Streaming online

Sound City: Reel to Reel is streaming online in anticipation of the release of the soundtrack. The collection of songs, featuring collaborations with the likes of Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor, Stevie Nicks, Corey Taylor and countless others were recorded during the production of Dave Grohl’s documentary Sound City, which is available online in several different formats. The eleven track album is streaming through NPR. You can pick up a copy of your own March 12th.

He Says He Can't Be Fired, Working On New Album, Teaser Trailer Released and New Tune Online

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

He says he can't be fired

Scott Weiland speaks to TMZ
Scott Weiland speaks to TMZ

Last week we heard the news that Scott Weiland was dropped from Stone Temple Pilots, a band he formed and fronted for years. The announcement came in a one sentence press release just as Weiland was set to start a solo tour. Now the front man tells TMZ that no one can be fired from the band because STP won’t be STP without everyone, including Weiland, so says their contract. He also says it was all a publicity stunt to boost ticket sales for future concerts. In an impromptu airport interview with TMZ, Weiland also batted away subastance abuse problems.

Working on new album

Motorhead is in the studio hammering out a new album, which will be the band’s 21st studio album. A pic posted online shows bassist and front man Lemmy laying down some bass riffs for the upcoming attempt. They apparently have 11 songs ready to lay down. Expect to grab up a new Motorhead album sometime this summer.

Teaser trailer released

Stone Sour has released a trailer for the forthcoming animated video of “Do Me A Favor,” the first single from the upcoming House of Gold and Bones Part 2. The 45 second video posted online (watch below or at this link) shows a man walking into a church only to find out he’s being followed by a horde of the undead. What looks to be a mixture of live action mixed with various animated graphics, the video appears to be a bit on the creepy side. Get more info online at

New tune online

Pop Evil will be in town later this month and with them they’ll bring some new music. They’ve already posted to their Facebook page a new song titled “Trenches.” The band has just finished up a new album and was super eager to post the new song. The album Onyx hits shelves May 14th. They’ll be in town at Boondocks, with Otherwise, March 27th.  Listen to the song below or at this link.

First NIN Dates Posted, New KSE Video, The Science of the Pit, and On the Charts

The WQLZ Music Minute--Music news written by Bishop for 92.7 WQLZ, The Rock Station

First NIN dates posted

To get an idea of just how an eventual Nine Inch Nails tour is going to play out, the band has already announced several shows—but they’re mainly overseas festivals with the first being in Japan this July and then in Germany in August. What is not known is if the rebooted Nine Inch Nails will tour the US before or after the overseas jaunt. Front man Trent Reznor announced this week he’s taking Nine Inch Nails off the shelf and giving it new life with former members Alessandro Cortini and Ilan Rubin and additional members Eric Avery from Janes Addiction, King Crimson’s Adrian Belew and Puscifer’s Josh Eustis.

New KSE video

We’re about a month away from the first album from metallers Killswitch Engage with original singer Jesse Leach and now the video for their latest tune is available online. Fans can watch the video through Rolling Stone magazine’s website. It shows the band on a film set rocking out and also having fun with the film crew and audience. The album Disarm the Dissent will be out April 2nd.

A pit typified by a few a-holes who walk in circles like bad asses only to find that one guy who can knock them down
A pit typified by a few a-holes who walk in circles like bad asses only to find that one guy who can knock them down

The science of the pit

Who’d a thought that scientists would study the chaotic ritual of mosh pits to learn about riots and natural patterns? Cornell University did. The lab coats at the school’s department of Condense Matter Physics put their brains together to research metal show mosh pits in hopes of better understanding extreme situations like riots or mass panic. Two scientists who worked on the research say that when people knowingly enter the pits and start bouncing off each other they resemble how gases and particles react or how birds flying in groups will act or even schools of fish … something the lab coats term “vortex pattern of particulate behavior.” I know, it’s a bit too sciency for our tastes, but if you’re interested, National Geographic has all the drab details.

On the charts

Buckcherry did it! They grabbed themselves a spot on the Billboard charts for their most recent attempt Confessions. The album landed at No. 20 selling 18,000 copies in its first week of sales. On the digital charts, the album landed at No. 1 on the iTunes Rock list.
