  All Day Geocaching   Get your family out to experience our parks with geocaching, a fun high tech scavenger hunt. Starting this spring, search for Springfield Park District's 10 caches hidden throughout the park district. Find exciting, first to find prizes, as well as passes and other fun prizes.   All Day Macoupin County Fair   The colorful lights that dance on the rides, the smells that waft from the food stands, the attractions that bring back memories for young and old. It’s never too early to start thinking about the Macoupin County Fair! This year, the fair will provide a variety of attractions and entertainment for the whole family from June 24-29, 2013. Annual events – including the tractor pull, mud drag, and demo derby – will take place, as well as a performance by a nationally known local talent.   7:00PM 7:30PM CARILLON TOURS AND FREE CONCERTS   The Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon, in Washington Park, will re-open for tours on Saturday, May 4. The Rees Carillon, a 12-story tower with three observation decks, offers spectacular views of Washington Park and Springfield from the city’s highest point of elevation. Tours are offered every 30 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. There is one tour on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm. New this year, every tour includes a live carillon performance. Adults - $3.25 and children - $2.50. The new expanded free schedule of concerts begins this Wednesday, May 1. Concerts are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 pm and Sundays at 3:00 and 7:00 pm. Each concert is 30 minutes in length. Robin Austin, the Park District’s Carillonneur plays a wide variety of classical, folk and popular songs. Enjoy the beauty of Washington Park and the adjacent Botanical Center with the unique accompaniment of carillon music
 
  8:00AM 12:30PM Farmers Market   Live, work, play, and be healthy! Downtown Springfield, Inc. (DSI) invites the public to attend opening day ribbon cutting and festivities for the Old Capitol Farmers’ Market, presented by St. John’s Hospital, Wednesday, May 15 at 10 a.m.; with live music by the Frank Trompeter Quartet, Celebrity Chef Demonstration by Ashley Meyer of Real Cuisine Restaurant & Catering, and free cake (while it lasts) made by Incredibly Delicious. The Market will be held 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturday’s May 15 – October 26 and is located on Adams Street between Fifth and Second streets. With nearly three full blocks of vendors there is an outstanding variety of produce, baked goods, meats, cheese, plants and many other specialty items. The Market accepts LINK, Debit, and Credit Card transactions for the purchase of Market Tokens ($1.00 each). The Market Token Station will be located at Development Services Group, 401 E. Adams (NE corner of Fourth and Adams) and available 8 a.m. to noon each Market day. Vendors will also continue to accept cash, checks, WIC and Senior Coupons. DSI again received grant funding from LINK UP Illinois to provide Double Value tokens for Link cardholders; LINK UP Illinois is a program of Experimental Station, in partnership with Wholesome Wave and the Illinois Farmers Market Association. LINK customers may receive a maximum of $10 of Double Value tokens per market day until grant funds are expended.
 
  12:00PM 4:00PM Home Tours   April 20 through Sept. 30, Iles House open to the public Wednesdays and Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m. Visitors are introduced to the history and architecture of the Iles House, Springfield’s oldest home, and provided tours of the house and the Barringer collection of early Illinois furnishings. The new Iles House exhibit: Camp Butler: A Civil War Story is featured in the downstairs Springfield Museum. The story is told through artifacts and documents, many from private collections. Curators will be on hand to talk about collections, and refreshments will be served. Donations encouraged. Visiting Artisans Program. Saturdays through Sept, the house will have blacksmith, civil war cooking, shoemaker, and more. Sixteen different crafters from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.

  7:00AM 5:30PM Summer Day Camp   The Springfield Park District is taking registrations for the Nelson Center Summer Day Camp. Camp begins June 3 and runs through August 17 (Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.). Kids ages 5 -12 can attend and participate in various outdoor activities including swimming, games and themed weeks. Swimming lessons are provided as well.   9:00AM 5:00PM On My Own Time City-wide Visual Arts Exhibit   The City-wide Exhibit for the On My Own Time program, sponsored by the Springfield Area Arts Council, will be on display in Union Station, 500 E. Madison, across from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, from Sunday, June 23 through Friday, July 12, 2013. The exhibit will be available for viewing daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, except July 12 when it closes at 4 PM. This visual arts program gives employees of participating businesses, agencies and institutions an opportunity to share their creative talents through artwork completed outside working hours. The artwork was first exhibited at the participating workplaces where the paintings, drawings, photography, fiber art, and other art mediums were judged by a panel of specialists. Over 275 pieces of art were included in the In-House Exhibits held in May. Eighty-one (81) first-place artworks qualified for the City-wide Exhibit. This artwork is judged again and awards presented for the City-wide Exhibit. Participating companies, businesses, institutions, and agencies include the following: American General Life Companies, Bunn-O-Matic, Lincoln Land Community College, Southern Illinois University-School of Medicine, Springfield Public School District 186, University of Illinois at Springfield, Illinois Commerce Commission, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois State Museum, Illinois State Police, and Illinois Departments of Agriculture, Human Services, and Public Health.
 
  10:00AM 2:00PM Bob Steffan Summer Film Fest   The Magic School Bus Gets Ants in Its Pants." Film will be shown on Tuesday, June 25 and Wednesday, June 26 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Bob Steffan Summer Film Fest is recommended for children ages 3-8 and is great for day care classes, summer camp groups and families.
