ACLU Questions CVE Program

The American Civil Liberties Union and other groups want information from state agencies about a program that they say unfairly targets Muslims.

The Countering Violent Extremism program, or CVE, is a federally-funded effort to identify people who are at risk of radicalization and violence.

The ACLU of Illinois says the program now focuses mainly on Muslims, and represents unfair discrimination on the basis of faith.

The agency has sent requests to State Police, the state Department of Public Health, the University of Illinois and other agencies requesting information on how the program is being implemented.
