Advocates Call For Diversity On Local Economic Development Committee

Local advocates are calling for more female and minority representation on the new public-private entity set up for economic development initiatives in Sangamon County.

The Faith Coalition for the Common Good says the board of the Land of Lincoln Economic Development Corporation has only one person of color and just three women… two of whom are local college administrators.

The group is calling for the $25,000 to $50,000 fee for admission to the EDC’s board of directors to be waived for women and minorities who can’t afford it, but who could provide a diverse viewpoint on economic development issues.
