Former Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell wants to be sheriff and so he’s taking his name out of consideration for the job of U.S. Marshal.
Campbell was a finalist for the marshal’s post but has notified members of the state’s congressional delegation that he no longer wants to be considered, so that he can focus his attention on running for sheriff next year.
Campbell ran in 2014 but lost the GOP primary to Wes Barr, who went on to become sheriff.
But when Barr announced last month that he would not seek re-election, Campbell says he knew right away that he would make another run for the job.
The Sangamon County GOP has already endorsed Campbell’s candidacy.
