Downtown Sewer Cave-Ins Unsurprising, Still A Hassle

You shouldn’t be surprised at the large number of sewer cave-ins affecting traffic in downtown Springfield.

Public Works Director Mark Mahoney says it’s the inevitable result of heavy rains overloading a 100-year-old network of sewers downtown.

Mahoney says plans are in the works to try to shore up the system, using liners and other techniques. But he says it will take time… and a lot of money, not all of which has been found yet.
