Medical emergency

Another health scare for Bret Michaels, this time it was at a show in New Hampshire last night. Guitarist Pete Evick took to Facebook and said that after three songs, Michaels rushed from the stage. Initially a crew member said that the Poison front man had extremely low blood sugar … Michaels has Type 1 diabetes. Anyways … Michaels eventually returned to the stage but not to perform. He instead informed the audience that he was un able to continue. The singer then took to Twitter and Facebook to tank the paramedics who fixed him up. A few years ago Michaels found a blood clot in his brain an had to make a rush trip to the hospital. He also took a nasty hit from a stage piece at an awards show, so he’s had his fair share of medical emergencies.

Airs Saturday

If you’ve got HBO, you’ll be able to get the popcorn and booze ready for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony that’s set to air this Saturday. The ceremony actually took place last month where Nirvana and KISS, among others, were inducted. The broadcast will also feature performances from the Nirvana and others, but not KISS, because they punked out. The Rock Hall special airs on HBO Saturday. Check your local listings.

New gig

If you’re a fan of Marilyn Manson’s appearances on the popular FX show Sons of Anarchy, you’ll be happy to know that he’ll be cast in the show as a recurring character. The shock rock singer will be on the program for their seventh season as the white supremacist named Ron Tully. But, Tully won’t be going anywhere because … well, he’s in prison. Manson says he was determined to make the show a bigger part of his career but now he needs to get a motorcycle. He also says that his dad’s a huge fan. Manson’s got a growing entry on IMDB to include work on shows like Eastbound and Down, and Californication and even movies like Jawbreaker and Party Monster.

Super duper Cooper

Speaking of made-up rockers, Alice Cooper is blasting today’s male singers as not being able to pull of the rock star act. Considered the founder of using glam and theatrics to make rock concerts an experience, Cooper says ladies in pop are doing more with theater on the stage. As Cooper not seen an Avenged Sevenfold show? Anyway, Cooper is the subject of a DVD out next week titled Super Duper Alice Cooper.

MCA Day NYC - A Celebration Of Adam Yauch

Beastie suit

The remaining members of the Beastie Boys were serious when they said they don’t want their music used in promotional material for products. The most recent saga is between the remaining members of the band and Monster Energy Drink, who used a Beastie Boys tune in an online video. Lawyers for Monster even acknowledge they “technically did violate” the group’s copyright but they don’t think they owe the $2 million in damages being sought by the group. Ad-Rock, also known as Adam Horovitz testified on behalf of the Beastie Boys and was eventually asked about the use of one of their songs in a watch companies snowboard video. Ad-Rock quickly shot back “we like sports”. The case is being heard in New York and a verdict could come soon. We’ll keep you posted.

Drinking disease

On the too much partying disease, lead singer of Sum 41 says he will be back to normal in the very near future and that means he’ll be back on the stage. However, it has yet to be seen if Deryck Whibley will be able to survive being a clean rock star or if he’ll stumble again leading to the unfortunate demise of his liver. Then we get to Motorhead’s Lemmy who band mates say is doing much better as well. Lemmy’s health has been up and down in the past few years causing intermitent delays in the band’s tour.

New tune

Hellyeah is gearing up to release their new album in a few weeks and we’ve already heard a couple of tunes including the increasingly popular song “Sangre por Sangre” available for request on QLZ today! The band is now streaming the song “Demons in the Dirt” online through a YouTube video. It’s definitely gonna be the metal anthem of the summer for metal heads abound. Listen today and plan on picking up the new album Blood for Blood June 10th. You can currently pre-order the album via iTunes. They’re currently finishing up a tour US tour but will back this Fall with Five Finger Death Punch and Volbeat.

Bought by Apple

There’s been a big merger between Beats Electronics and Apple. The overpriced headphones and streaming music service was snatched up by the Macintosh company for $3 billion. That’s billion with a “B”. With that deal comes the companies founders, Dr. Dre and recording industry icon Jimmy Iovine taking leading roles in Apple’s music division. Apple hopes that buying Beats will help it secure the headphone market but also to revamp and revitalize their iTunes service.

On sale

Pearl Jam will be in St. Louis at the Scottrade Center October 3rd. Tickets go on sale today at 10am. Snatch them up before they sell out!

Rome calls ‘em Linkin Narc

In the rock world, bad blood isn’t only garnered by rock stars talking smack across media platforms, it’s also an outcome of when bands collide on the road. The latest saga is between Sublime With Rome and Linkin Park. Rome Ramirez took to twitter over the weekend and said “Linkin Park called the cops on us and said … they were allergic to pot. Cops came and tool all our weed while we on stage.” He then called them “Linkin Narc” and included the #bitchmove. The two bands were among others at the KFMA Day Festival in Tucson, Arizona. Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda later Tweeted narcing isn’t the band’s style. But Rome put out a screen capture of a TMZ report where they claim to have grabbed up the police report from the incident and it described a guard who dropped Linkin Park’s name saying they were allergic. That same TMZ report says that LP apologized and promised to replace the confiscated pot, but Rome refused and is still pissed off. More drama?

Bandmates want nothing to do with Watkins

Bad blood can also be found between former bandmates for a variety of things, including shoddy deals with record companies, or … that your band mate gets arrested for hiring a hit man to murder your estranged wife and eventually pleads guilty, or … if your bandmate gets arrested, goes on trial for sex with a minor and seems far from remorseful … that’s likely to leave a bitter taste. The former was Tim Lambesis, who’s other bandmates are luke warm and actually out with a new group. The latter is the case of Ian Watkins whose bandmates have all but said “eff off” … They want nothing to do with him. Two members of the band have said they have zero interest of reconnecting with Watkins. Do you blame them? Watkins is serving 29 years in prison for child sex crimes.

New Slipknot album will be rad

So, how’s that new Slipknot album coming along? According to front man Cory Taylor, we’re gonna lose our minds when the damn thing is finally released to the masses. The future release, which hasn’t been given a date yet, comes amid a bit of a rocky road where Taylor has parted ways with Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison. Meanwhile, from Taylor’s other band Stone Sour, Jim Root has stepped down, but he’s devoting time to a new Slipknot album. On the new attempt Taylor says that it sounds like a mesh of their Iowa and Vol. 3 albums. What doesn’t that mean? Taylor tells Pop Culture Madness that the new attempt will have the melodies and artistic direction of Vol. 3 with the brutality of Iowa. He tells Front Row Live Entertainment simply that the new album will be “rad”. There’s no time yet for when the record will be out.

Nugent to release album and tour

Watch out, world. Ted Nugent is back with a new album and a tour. And he’s coming nowhere near central Illinois. The new album, which drops July 8th, is titled SHUTUP&JAM. The album features guests like Sammy Hagar and others. Hagar recently said that Nugent is “ripping the guitar like the days of old.”

Smith and Ferrell drum-off

And, if you haven’t seen it by now, you’ve been living under a rock—A funny thing happened on the “Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and it had nothing to do with Jimmy Fallon: Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith appeared on the show alongside actor/comedian Will Ferrell. The two wore the same clothes and even performed a drum off where Ferrell joked “more like the Lukewarm Chili Peppers.” At the end of the bit, Ferrell busts out a cowbell and the rest of the Chili Peppers takes to the stage to perform Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper”.

He’s not retiring

There were reports of Axl Rose ready to start drawing off his 401K, or does Guns N’ Roses offer up a pension? … either way, reports were circulating that Rose was going to retire. The band has since come out to squash those reports! Loudwire reports that the band says any talk of retirement is “bullsh*t”. The original report surfaced from Radar Online saying that the band would hang up their instruments at the end of the current Las Vegas residency June 7th. To dispel the rumor even more, the official Guns N’ Roses Twitter account posted a pic of Rose with big letters saying “I’M NOT GOING ANYWHERE”.

Taylor roast to air

If you weren’t able to make it to Rock on the Range to see the roast of Cory Taylor, there’ll be video very soon. The Roast on the Range event was the official kickoff for Rock on the Range this past weekend. Taylor got put through the ringer by the likes of bandmate Shawn “Clown” Crahan, Anthrax’s Scott Ian and others including professional comedians. But as is Roast tradition, it’s not just the honorary guest being grilled, it’s also pretty much everyone else on stage. The roast will air in it’s entirety through Howard Stern’s outlets today. Check your local listings.

Body Count is back

If you’re in for a racially insensitive heavy metal song from the likes of Ice-T and others, you need to check out the latest video from the heavy metal hip hop group Body Count. Their new song “Talk S**t, Get Shot” features a couple guys in a neighborhood grocery store talking smack about Ice-T’s Body Count project saying they’re a bunch a bitches, and how everyone on the streets listens to Drake. But that’s quickly stifled as the heavy metal hip hop kicks in. It’s worth of view, but it’s Not Safe For Work! If you get caught watching it, you’ll probably have to go through some sensitivity training. Body Count’s unapologetic album Manslaughter is set to be released June 10th. Body Count has been around in some capacity since 1990.

New album updates

There are a couple stories on the new album front from Metallica, Soundgarden and Black Sabbath. With start with Sabbath where it was reported a few days ago that Tony Iommi declared an upcoming show as being the band’s last. That also hinted at there not being another Black Sabbath album. Now front man Ozzy Osbourne is in the press saying that he’s up for another Sabbath album and tour. Ozzy tells Guitar World magazine that if the upcoming July 4th concert in London is the last show the band is ending on a high note, which is much better than where the band left things back in the late 70s. As for Metallica, James Hetfield is weighing in saying it’s all about quality over quantity. Kirk Hammett recently came out saying the band has enough material for a couple of albums. And what about a new Soundgarden album? Front man Chris Cornell says that they haven’t been in the studio writing, but while out on the road all the members piece together various new riffs and such to where when they do get in the studio they can go zero to 60 “really fast.” Soundgarden is out with Nine Inch Nails this summer.

Megadeth cancels shows

Megadeth has canceled some shows in reaction to a death in the family. Bassist Dave Ellefson’s brother died after battling cancer. In a recent book by Ellefson titled My Life with Deth, the bassist talked about his brother as being a disciplined hard worker focused on being a farmer. After Eliot Ellefson’s passing Megadeth decided to cancel their tour dates for the next month and will return to the road June 20th for a show in Quebec. Most of the canceled shows are over in Europe, so unless you were vacationing in The Netherlands, it won’t impact you.

Head on religion and Christ

He recently did a stint at a Russian hospital because of kidney stones and now Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch is getting all preachy … kinda. In a recent interview with Matt Pinfield, Head talked about religion and Jesus Christ. Simply put, Head says he hates religion, but has profound love for and a strong relationship with Jesus Christ. Head left the band years ago, found god and then returned just last year to tour and record with the band again. He says he now gets high on Christ.

Head’s kidney gets stones

Korn meet kidney stone—that’s what caused Brian “Head” Welch to drop off a gig in Russia this week. Head got a taste of some good ‘ol socialist medicine in Krasnoyarsk (which amazingly doesn’t pop up as misspelled in Word). In a video, Head apologizes to fans who noticed his absence and also gives a shout out to “JR,” the 19-year-old guitarist from Love & Death, Heads other band. Head says he’ll be back on the stage in no time. Here’s to a speedy recovery … just stay away from the speed!

Marilyn Manson is mourning the death of his mother Barbara. She passed away at the age of 68 a few days after Mothers’ Day after battling dementia, according to reports. In a post to social media, Manson, whose birth name is Brian Warner, says his mother was his greatest believer and that he will work to make her proud and “satisfied that you know you made the son you wanted. I love you.”

Secret Foo show

A secret Foo Fighters show in New Orleans over the weekend is evidence that there’s more to come from the band. The 90-minute set in New Orleans shut down the street when fans started flooding the impromptu venue. Apparently the band chose Preservation Hall in New Orleans as one of their recording studios for their forthcoming album and you can expect to see more of that in the forthcoming HBO documentary series about the band’s new album. It’s still unclear when the TV show or the album will come out, but surely it’ll be sometime before the end of the year. We’ll keep you posted.

Voiceover work

Among shredding on the guitar and screaming on stage to tens of millions of fans around the world, Metallica front man James Hetfield is also getting some voiceover work. News has it that the History Channel is coming out with a series titled “The Hunt” and Hetfield will narrate the show. Among his many hobbies, Hetfield has experience hunting bears, so this makes since. You can hear his voice on the show June 8th. Check your local listings!

Crue done country

Cow girls, cow girls, cow girls … that’s not really what the song’s turned into, but you could only imagine what it’s like when a bunch of country artists remake Motley Crue songs. A whole lineup of big named country acts are collaborating to put their spin on some classic Crue tunes. Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute to Motley Crue will feature LeAnn Rimes, Eli Young Band, Florida Georgia Line, Justin Moore, Brantley Gilbert, Gretchen Wilson, Rascal Flatts and others. Crue bassist Nikki Sixx says the record isn’t for Crue fans, but for country fans who also dig on some rock tunes. For you bumpkins out there, Nashville Outlaws drops in stores July 8th.

Enough for several

We keep hearing more about a new Metallica album. A couple of weeks ago drummer Lars made a baseball reference in saying the band was close to getting a new album done. Then Kirk Hammett came out to back that up. Now Hammett is saying that the band has enough material for a couple more ‘tallica albums. Well, guys … get it together! Let’s hear it! Meanwhile, video posted online show Metallica rocking out AT&T Park during a Giants game. They played their version of the National Anthem to a bunch of baseball fans.

100 days sober

It’s kind of hard to believe that someone who spent most of his career abusing substances could find the time to get 100 days sober, but that’s what industrial godfather Al Jourgensen has done. Taking to his Facebook page throughout the past few months, Uncle Al has updated fans on how longs he’s been sober. Last week marked the 100th day the Ministry front man has been clean. He says he thinks he gets somekind of medallion or special chip or something. Who knows. Keep it up, Al! And remember kids, everything in moderation!

Six years in prison

If you were to plead guilty to hiring a hit mat to kill you estranged wife, what kind of sentence do you think would be handed down? Not sure? Why not ask As I Lay Dying singer Tim Lambesis? The 33-year-old singer was sentenced to six years in prison late last week. The story broke last year when it was reported Lambesis hired what he thought was a hit man to take his wife Megan out … and not to dinner. That hit man just so happened to be an undercover sheriff’s deputy. After a few court hearings here and there Lambesis eventually pleaded guilty and said that he was upset because his wife would get a large share of his income in a divorce settlement. Should have thought about that before you tied the not, idiot. Now you’re in shackles. Work that into a song. Have fun in prison, stupid.

Root out of Stone Sour

It’s confirmed that Jim Root is no more a member of Stone Sour. Word came out over the weekend that Root is leaving the band. Don’t worry, maggots. He’ll still be integral on the next Slipknot album. As far as why Root is no long with Stone Sour, those details haven’t been released yet … We’ll keep you posted.

AMC to pick up Corgan

Move over Dave Grohl, Billy Corgan is gonna get his own reality show and you won’t have to buy a premium cable package to watch it. But, this reality show isn’t about making a new album, it’s about the Smashing Pumpkins front man’s wrestling league. Corgan confirmed that AMC will pick up on Corgan’s Resistance Pro Wrestling. There’s really no other details at this time, but we’ll keep you posted. It was reported last week that Foo Fighters will be followed around by HBO in an upcoming series as the band puts their new album together in various studios across the country. But, that’s something you’ll have to subscribe to a premium cable service to get. AMC airs on basic cable.

Too much booze

Kids, everything in moderation. That’s the moral of the story after Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley says his doctors warned if he has one more drink he’ll die. Whibley’s been in the hospital for the past month because of the heavy boozing. That kind of lifestyle takes a toll on your liver and kidneys. Take it from Whibley: “drink responsibly. [he] didn’t, and look where it got [him].”

Foo Fighters on HBO

We knew something was going to be extra special about the forthcoming Foo Fighters album. Now we know more. Dave Grohl and the guys are going to be followed around by a crew from HBO filming their every move. The band recorded a song at a legendary studio in several different cities: Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington and New York. When the band took to the studio, they were also hanging out with rock legends like Paul Stanley or Joe Walsh and even some of the less known types like Ian MacKaye from Fugazi. The untitled project doesn’t have a firm release date but it’s expected out later this year on the eave of Foo Fighters’ 20th anniversary as a band. Holy crap that just made me feel old.

Last show … ever

Black Sabbath had one hell of a year with the release of their album 13. They enjoyed a huge tour and even a Grammy award. But reports indicate that the band is nearing the absolute end of their career. Tony Iommi told Metal Hammer that the band’s last show for the summer could be their last show period. That will take place on the 4th of July in Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival in London. Iommi says he doesn’t want it to be the band’s last show but there’s nothing really planned after that. He also says he doesn’t want to tour too much longer because of his health. Iommi has been battling lymphoma for a couple of years.

Autobiography out next year

Want to jump inside the mind of Pantera front man Phil Anselmo? It’s probably a pretty scary place, but surely it’s worth a jaunt! The singer’s autobiography titled Mouth For War: Pantera and Beyond is expected out January of 2015. The book is taking pre-orders right now.

Postponing show because of unrest

The unrest in Ukraine isn’t just a major international story, it’s also impacting tour plans for major rock acts like Korn. The band announced they’ve postponed their scheduled show in Kiev Friday because of the growing tensions in that country. Currently they’re on tour in Russia with a stop in Moscow today. Posted to the band’s website, a statement says that the US State Department has issued a travel advisory warning against any non-essential travel to Kiev and that the band and the promoter decided to postpone the show to a later date. When will that be? Not sure. There have been clashes between pro-Russian and pro-Western supporters for months and things don’t seem to be calming down. Korn has concerts through Russia up to May 28th. After that they’ll head to Rockfest 2014 in Kansas City at the end of May and then up to Canada for a festival at the end of June before launching as the headliner of the Mayhem Festival July 5th.

Butler offers reward for cat killer

Black Sabbath Bassist Geezer Butler has a soft spot for felines. He was so disturbed by a story about a cat killer that he’s offering up a $1,000 reward. But then again, anyone who hears this story should cringe … if not, you are either a sociopath or don’t have a soul … or both. In Yonkers, New York, someone has killed more than two dozen cats and hung them in bags in a wooded area. Butler is a longtime animal right’s activist and his $1,000 reward is being added to the $25,000 reward officials have offered up for information leading to the arrest of the sicko. Now, I’m wondering where Geezer was when Ozzy bit that bat’s head off years ago …

Riot Fest announced

Riot Fest has been announced and there’s a lineup for Chicago’s shows September 12 through the 14th. Among the dozens and dozens of acts:Andrew W. K., GWAR, Clutch, Mudhoney, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Of Mice & Men, NOFX, Dropkick Murphys, The Used, international acts Die Antwoord and Russian Punk band Pussy Riot, The Offspring, Slayer, Weezer, Rise Against and Jane’s Addiction … just to name a few. Tickets for that festival, which includes a carnival, are on sale now at RiotFest.org.

Pretty Reckless Tour

Wanna see Taylor Momsen’s boobs covered by electrical tape in person? You may get your chance with a new North American tour announced by The Pretty Reckless. Fristly, they’ll be in Peoria Friday at the Peoria Civic Center for their Spring and Summer tour. Can’t line up to be there this Friday? Don’t worry, they’ll come back around for their “Going to Hell” fall tour with back-to-back stops in St. Louis and Chicago October 23rd and 24th, respectively. Meanwhile front woman Momsen slid across a stage during a recent show. Bad new is the stage was wooden and she caught a few splinters. So, what does a rock star do? They bust out the sharpest knife and remove that SOB. And, the evidence of the impromptu surgery was capture via a Twitter post from Pretty Reckless bassist Mark Damon.

Honoring Ozzy

At the most recent MusiCares benefit concert in Los Angeles, Ozzy Osbourne was honored for his efforts to help individuals cope with addiction. Ozzy said that he knows firsthand about the ravages of addiction and MusicCare is a safety net for people in the music industry who need help. “This organization literally saves lives,” Ozzy said. Also on hand at the benefit concert was Metallica who performed a couple of covers, including tunes from the Beatles, Deep Purple and Ozzy Osbourne. Video of the band’s performances are circulating online.

Adrenaline Mob accident

After a nearly fatal car accident, the guys from Adrenaline Mob have dropped off the tour with Avenged Sevenfold and Hellyeah. A press release from the band states that the band was driving down the interstate in New Hampshire on the way to a show in Quebec City. The accident wasn’t fatal for the band and there actually weren’t any injuries reported, but it did destroy their gear and their van. Best wishes to a speedy recovery, guys!
